Upgraded Basic Tee for Your Wardrobe

Happy Monday ladies. Today’s look of the week is a fashion staple for many women. These basics are often the support pieces we can’t be without and a major player in a well-rounded wardrobe. Today I am sharingĀ an upgraded basic tee from Fig & Lily that is anything but basic.

Tee shirts are an importantĀ basic in my wardrobe. They play a supporting role under jackets, sweaters, and wraps so I wear them often. Because they’re usually cotton or a cotton blend they tend to lose their polish faster than other items and don’t last longer than a few seasons. If that.

Today I am sharing a fabulous upgrade for the humble tee in your wardrobe that I absolutely love. I shared Jennifer Connolly wearing upgraded basic tee from Fig & lily

This teeĀ is proudly made in the USA by Fig & Lily They are a small company of female entrepreneurs working to provide a superior product for women and help the world in the process.

It’s a weightless tee with a slimming silhouette which is relaxed through the hips, tummy, and thigh. They’re designed with a sensible neckline that won’t expose more than you want when you bend over. In other words, it’s modest and classy. It drapes elegantly over your body without sheerness or cling.

These tees are madeĀ from anĀ ultra-soft blend of SupimaĀ® cotton and MicromodalĀ®. SupimaĀ® is a special cotton with fibers which are 35% longer than other cotton fibers. Why does this matter? Because that makes the cotton 45% more durable, smoother, stronger and softer. The MicromodalĀ® is an insanely soft fabric made from recycled European Beechwood which feels like silk. Together they are dreamy.Upgraded basic tee modeled by style blogger Jennifer Connolly

Fig & Lily preshrink their tees three times so theĀ size you order is the size that comes out of your dryer! They’re easy care, machine wash in cool water and tumble dry on low temps. The company suggests you do not hang these tees, to which I say yay! Tee shirts shouldn’t require fussy handling because they get worn so often.

I love the length of these tees because they’re longer than most and perfect for wearing over skinny pants, jeans, and leggings. The exaggerated shirttail hemline curves up gracefully on the sides which prevents it from looking boxy.Jennifer Connolly of A well Styled Life showing shirt tail hemline of Fig & Lily basic tee

Here are a few other things I love about this company.

  • They call themselves tree-huggers because they plant 3,000 trees for every one tree they use.
  • They provide living wages to local villagers in Nepal, Ethiopia, Madagascar, and Haiti to plant trees and restore the forests their communities count on.
  • They are ethically produced in the USA.

10% of profits from the World Peace pins are donated to humanitarian organizations dedicated to the financial, educational and interpersonal support of women survivors of war, poverty, and injustice.

  4. The T-shirt you are wearing is attractive but the price is way too high for a run around top. I do love the Covered Perfectly you recommended and have several in different colors. They suit my budget and wash well. Their service is prompt.

    1. They are similar but different in several ways. These are a different fiber content and can be tossed in the dryer! Both are lovely and budget friendly for many women.

What size are you wearing in this Tshirt? Thanks

    1. Iā€™m wearing a medium, and weight 144lbs. Itā€™s got a nice drape to it.

      1. Thank you so much Jennifer! I am going to order a t-shirt this week. Also, the belt you once posted about from Purple Poppy dies a great job of slimming the grin of jeans. You have been super helpful to me.

  6. Itā€™s a nice relaxed outfit. Can you tell me about your jeans? I like the stripe down the leg.

  7. I love the idea of tshirt and jeans, but I’ve noticed that tshirts always get tiny holes in them where the zipper hardware is located on my jeans. I now only wear tshirts with trousers and stick to button-front shirts with jeans. Anyone else have this problem, or have a solution to suggest?

  8. So glad you posted about these tees again. I purchased a few the last time you mentioned it and totally loved ’em! The fabric is soo deliciously soft and the look is very versatile. My size was a little off, but they replaced it without a problem. I love what this company stands for… we need to support women entrepreneurs like these more often.

    1. Iā€™m so happy you love them as much as I doGran! Iā€™m ordering a few more with this discount code;)) I love supporting women entrepreneurs.

  9. Sounds like a great socially conscious company! Beautiful tee and good to know how it is made and the work going on behind its production! Thank you for this post!

What brand are your shoes in this post?

  12. Can you tell me about your jeans and shoes? There may have been a post about the jeans in the past. Thanks.

  13. As usual, no petites. Same story with Covered Perfectly. What about us shorter gals?

    1. Hi Cheryl,
We get it. Our tees are designed to work for women 4’10 and taller. The fitted sleeves can be worn rolled at the cuff or ruched at the wrist ā€” which is how many of our customers choose to wear them. You will see the rolled cuff look on our website, as they were designed to be worn this way for petites.

At 4’10”, the length hits about mid-thigh, and wears like a tunic tee. At 5’2”, your tee will hit the upper thigh and look like a long shirt. Above 5’5”, the tee will provide rear coverage, and so on. Given the tapered fit through the shoulders, arms and bust, the tee does not overwhelm a smaller frame, but every woman’s body is different.

You are welcome to give it a try. We offer free shipping and exchanges, with easy returns. If you have any other questions or concerns, we’d be happy to help. You can email us at [email protected].

      1. Thank you for taking the time to respond. I know women come in all shapes and sizes. Sleeve length is never the problem, as sleeves can be pushed up, etc. And I realize that a tee can be tucked but who wants to limit themselves to that? I noticed where the tee hit Jennifer at 5’4″ and realized that an additional 2 inches longer on me would be a tunic length and that is not what I want in a tee. Visually cutting off my legs with a long top is not a good look for me or any petite. Also, petites are also proportioned differently through shoulders and neckline. I just don’t want to pay that price for a tee and have it not be what I want and alterations are too darn expensive. Thank you again for your kind response. It is so frustrating that manufacturers do overlook petites and think we can “make do.” Well, I just don’t buy until I get a good fit.

      2. I am 5′ tall, 150 lb and own three of Fig & Lily tees. I love them! They are not tunic length on me. They hit just right to cover my backside and low enough in front to feel comfortable. Not too much material at all. They do run small so the staff at Fig & Lily suggested I order a large. Perfect fit. Hope this helps!

    2. This fabric is thin enough to do a half-tuck in front of you felt it was too long. Iā€™m ok with this length and as you know Iā€™m 5ā€™4ā€. Of course it could also be hemmed.
