Dressing Room Diaries: New Knits at Chico’s
Happy Friday ladies. This week’s dressing room diaries has photo challenges. My local store has low lighting which makes photo’s grainy… plus the walls are yellow or orangely red, both of which make me look like death warmed over. The store was pretty low on stock so I assume this collectionĀ is selling well.
The first thing I spotted were these great animal print bags.
I go nowhere without my cellphone and don’t always want to carry a handbag, so this is perfect. It’s the bag I didn’t know I needed. It also comes in Cheeta Print here. It acts a great little purse that can also hold someĀ money, ID and credit cards.
This textured cardigan was sold out locally other than the one in the window which they happily stripped off the mannequin for me. It looks like a jacket but is unlined and stretchy like a cardigan. I adore this. I’m wearing a regularĀ zero in Chico’s unique sizing. The sleeves are cropped and I would prefer a petite so they actually looked cropped rather than merely too short. I’m wearing it over the Carolyn no-iron white shirt in regular size 1. The fabrication of their no-iron shirts has changed over the years but this is very crisp. This shirt was featured in Oprah Magazine.
This is their new Knit Jacket in Lilac Fog. It has fold-up cuffs and is super soft. I’m wearing a regular zero and because it’s a long jacket would have preferred it in petite. This lavender is slightlyĀ warm toned. The scarf is a combo of colors that will coordinate with most of this collection. I tied a simple knot in both sides to keep it from hanging too long on me. This no-iron stain shield shirt repels oil-based and water-based stains.
Here is the same jacket in Indigo Ice which I preferred on me because it’s got a cooler tone. It also comes in a bright pink that I would consider magenta. The pendant has blue beads and coordinates with a lot of what I tried on.
This blue Chenille Jacket is gorgeous! It also comes in a Teak Taupe which is elegant and cool toned. I’m wearing a regular zero and think a petite would be a better proportion for me. These sleeves are too long and the darts are in the wrong place for my 5’4″ height.
I’m wearing the So Slimming Girlfriend Jeans in their “Quill” wash in all of the above looks. The tag says 4 regular or zero regular in their old size system. I like this 28″ inseam length for me, The petite has a 26″ inseam which would feel too short on me.
**I have not lost any weight lately and always wear their 6, so perhaps this pair was sized incorrectly.
This drape front cardigan comes in 3 colors in regular and petite. I accidentallyĀ grabbed an L and could wear a medium. I do like where the waist shaping is on my torso so would probably stay with a regular rather than petite.
These are their popular so-slimming BridgetteĀ pant in a white and blue stripe with dark blue dots. They’re a pull-on style which comes in regular and petite. These are regular. These would be great all spring and summer with white Keds and a Tee or sandals and a no-iron white shirt.
This rain jacket is in the same stripe and dot print as above, in a water repellant fabric. It has a floral lining and zip front. It comes in regular and petite. I’m wearing a regular in their zero and would go up to a one which is equivalent to an 8, for a bit more room.
This white tunic is longer in the back than the front and has black contrast trim on the collar. It is way too long for me and I’m not even sure the petite would work. The fabric is crisp no-iron shirting with an inverted pleat in the back that makes it quite full. I think this would be great on a tall woman. I’m wearing it over the printed ponte leggings. They’re fun black and white pattern in a nice weight which is snug enough that I wouldn’t wear them without a tunic to cover the top.
Here are some other things I spotted but did not try on.
Have you started to look at Spring clothes yet?
Thanks for reading an have a great day.
My favourite from this collection is the blue chenille jacket. I have a similar one in brown from several years ago that I haven’t worn for a long time, but couldn’t bear to part with. Perhaps I’ll bring it out and wear it again this year!
I love Chicoās but I am very flustered with their sizing. I wish you influencers would relay this to them. Ordering on line is out of the question.
I live in Australia and do a lot of online shopping internationally but although I like dozens of items at Chicos I have not been game to try. So much written online about difficulty with sizing makes me wary as expensive and difficult to return. if I knew for sure what size I would definitely be a customer.
I am new to your blog. Loving your selection of clothes in your dressing room diaries. I am wondering do you have pull together outfits with clothes you already have (that the rest of us my have similar items)? I am wondering as I am sure some of us are trying to be budget conscious and not buy new things. Thanks!
Welcome, Mary. Yes, I do have go-to items. I am working on a capsule wardrobe post that includes my basics and options for different budgets.
I love Chicos so thanks for fetaturing it! I have been looking online but haven’t hit the stores yet. It is too cold to go out at the moment. ????
Iāve been a faithful Chicoās shopper for 10 years but have noticed their sizing has been off lately…a 0 no longer fits right… Iām still the same size and weight as before however sleeve lengths are shorter, blouses are boxy, fabrics are shiny and cheap in some tops, too many doodads and rhinestones..and theyāve replaced the stunning Ayn in most catalogs. Whatās up with that?
Chico’s is constantly evolving their offerings. Some are happy with it and many are not. I’m not sure what or who Ayn is.
I love that jacquard coat and also the striped jacket. That blue is very flattering on you, but I think I’ll go check out the taupe version.
The taupe is lovely.
The blue chenille coat definitely gets my attention; I also thought that the blue pinstriped pants were very cute. They looked great with that darker blue draped cardigan.
Hi Jennifer, I just put the raspberry drape front cardigan in my basket and am thinking about the beaded utility jacket. Or the lilac coat. Unless I win the lottery I have to decide.
This was a great selection. Love the colors you chose.
Thanks
Eileen
I think you’ll love the cardigan.
I agree on the blue chenille jacket – it looks great on you Jennifer.
My pet peeve too is sizing. I wish there was standard sizing like we used to have. I used to always be a size 6 Canadian (4 in American brands) but now I have to try on sizes 4, 6 and 8 depending on the style, fabric, brand and store. I hardly ever order online because of this.
I to wish we had universal sizing from all brands. It would make things so much easier for the customer.
The chenille blue jacket suits you best. I know it is the lighting but the lilacs and paler colours don’t flatter you. I like the dot and stripe detailing on the pants. Don’t understand why dress ships don’t invest in better lighting. It would benefit both parties.
I do like the Chenille Jacquard jacket!
I take selfies of most of my clothes, in a three way mirror if possible, before I purchase. The stores need to make changes to accommodate this new way of looking at your choices. Lighter walls , better mirrors, and better lighting, please. I havenāt shopped at Chicos, I think itās too warm toned for my coloring, maybe those wall colors are influencing me?
The wall colors are horrible for us cool toned ladies.
like the Chenille blue on you best. I don’t understand why the light in the fitting rooms are the worst in the
shops. Sometimes I look like a ghost and exactly this is the reason why I reject to shop something I would
certainly do if the light makes look me better.
I just don’t like their clothes anymore. Their sizing is so off most of the time. If I like something I have to order two sizes to see which one fits better. Very frustrating.
I agree with their sizing being off as Linda mentioned. I have a lot of their clothing but I never had this problem before until this year. I hope quality control gets on top of this before they start losing customers.
I agree about the sizing. Itās changed.
I found the sizing a challenge this time too. Hopefully it will settle down.
I was a faithful customer of Chico’s, but am finding the sizing off just as you have; also I prefer far less “trim” on outfits; preferring to let jewelry or scarves add flair rather than embroidery or metal detail on clothing as so theirs do.
Thank you for going to Chicos! There is a Chicos within an hour of where I live and there is not a Nordstrom so I really appreciate seeing these clothes. I also love Chicos clothing and jewelry and most of my wardrobe comes from Chicos! I always learn from your posts, and especially appreciate the opportunity to s.ee the clothing in person
Thats why I order online from Nordstrom because they have free shipping and free returns. Itās easy to try things on and choose what looks best. You donāt need to live nearby to take advantage of their great items. Chicos jewelry is fun!
Love the Lilac Fog and Chenille Blue – they look great on you! I have a somewhat similar problem with Chico’s – you mentioned several times the length was too long for you – even some petites……I’m 5’10 and my problem is I love the tops, but lots of them stop at mid-tummy! Which is NOT where I want the focus to be! But Chico’s definitely has beautiful things!
Oh no, mid tummy would be out of the question for me too. I wish more companies made talls.
So glad you tried Chicoās again. It is my go to store!! I have no access to most of the other stores you visit.
I also really liked that the other mirror or a back shot to get a better idea about the item! Great and helpful post!!!
I just wish their lighting was brighter:)
What should we know about the chemical processing that goes into non-iron fabric? Do we need to be concerned that we are putting something next to our skin that we are inadvertently absorbing….I love the ease of no iron shirts but am uneasy about them because I don’t know what is in them.
Thatās certainly a concern. Organic cotton is safer for us if you donāt mind the wrinkles. Thanks for bringing this up.
Love the jackets here, Jennifer. I think I am headed over to try some items on too! Happy Friday!
Shopping online through my links help support my business and allows me to continue blogging š
The blue Chenille jacket is absolutely fabulous!
