Look of the Week: Soft and Feminine

At 60 I’m feeling itchy to try on some new looks…mostly for the feel. Not how the fabric feels, how the look feels from the inside. Looking classic just feels different than looking sporty. It feels timeless and elegant. Sporty feels relaxed and easy. Soft and feminine feels pretty and dramatic feels powerful. This spring I’m adding some new “feelings” to my mix. How about you?

I’ve aways wanted to feel confident, but these days I’m finding confidence need not look powerful. It can also look pretty, or soft or easy or fun.

Paler colors, lower contrast, and less serious accessories feel right to me this spring. That doesn’t mean you won’t see me wearing black…it means I’m comfortable branching out. These pink pants are striking paired with black but I also adore them with a classic white shirt and pale gray sandals.

We wandered around the town next door to ours and I suddenly noticed how darn cute it was! Is it a case of the grass is always greener? We’re talking about a 15-minute drive!

These sandals have a very wide, stable block heel. The ankle straps add supportĀ which make them quite comfortable. I almost always wear red or burgundy toenail polish but am preferring a soft pink this spring. My style is definitely changing and I’mĀ enjoying experimenting with new looks for how they feel.

My round handbag is duplicated in the shape of my earrings. My pale gray sandals don’t match but coordinate with the silver snake print top on my vintage straw handbag. All shapes and colors are soft which feels feminine, even though there’s not a ruffle or skirt in view.

  7. I like the pink pants, I think I would like to try something like that, as pale colours close to my face don’t really suit me I could perhaps wear them with a brighter top.!

    1. That’s a great idea! These would work with a brighter pink or purple too.

  9. Jennifer, How exciting to see you in Pleasanton. It is a cute little town and we are there all the time since my daughter and family live 5 minutes away in Livermore. I think the town has a great balance of young families and retirement life. You look great as always! I have coloring similar to yours and I told my daughter I want to do less black this spring/summer and more pastels. Thanks for all your inspiration!

    1. Small world, Nancy, how fun! I am really enjoying wearing less black this spring.

  11. Oh, I love everything about this outfit, including the town. ???? Your shoes are stylish but comfortable looking and that bag is adorable. I just bought a pair of pink chinos the other day. Now, for some warmer spring temps. I did wonder if they were too sweet a color but took the plunge.

    1. I think you’ll be happy you bought them. They also work great with black, brown, blue, tops which cuts down on their “sweet” factor.

    1. Thanks Carol! These sandals are so comfy too, I think because they support the ankle
