Update and Distracting Sales

Thanks for all your kind words and prayers for little Lucy. U.C. Davis Veterinary Hospital has been amazing! Every person we’ve met has been incredibly competent, kind and caring. They did surgery on her foot yesterday to take several biopsies and a culture to check for infection. The results won’t be back for 5-10 days so we will continue to pray as we help her get over this surgery. I feel confident that if anyone can help her, it’s this team.

While we sat waiting for her to come out of surgery I distracted myself by checking out the Nordstrom Fall sale on my phone.  It’s not as big as their pre-season sale but does have some terrific bargains. It’s also a great place to start holiday shopping.

Over the knee boots have been on my radar for a year or so. They’re hugely popular and I love how they look with skirts and leggings. I’m determined to find a flattering pair and add them to my wardrobe.Nordstrom Fall Sale on A Well Styled Life

These ones come in several colors and are a great price for suede boots. This stretch suede boot is a great value and available in 2 colors.

This classic Hunter rain boot is a forever style to wear year after year. If you live in a perpetually rainy climate a classic rain boot is a good investment.

I’m a huge fan of Franco Sarto boots. I have wide feet and like to wear socks in my boots which make the wide version perfect. These are available in 3 colors, 2 widths and are a classic ankle boot that will be in style for many years. These stacked heel booties are also on sale in 5 colors and 2 widths.Nordstrom Fall sale on A Well Styled Life

This classic wool coat is available in 2 colors and on sale 33% off until November 12. This Tahari coat is simply gorgeous and 60%off.Nordstrom Fall Sale on A Well Styled Life

My favorite Sam Edelman ballet flats are on sale in this pretty tapestry fabric. I own these shoes in 4 colors and love how easily they fit into my wardrobe.

There are some great handbags on sale here as well as sweaters and scarves. This sale is only on for 2 more days so if these things are on your holiday or personal list, now is the time to have a peek.

Thanks so much for being here. I am beyond appreciative of your support and kindness!

Precious Lucy has been on my mind since your first post about her. Hopefully, you will get an answer quickly. Meanwhile hug her close and spoil her to death.

I got good news at orthopaedic surgeon…healing well, moved to a much smaller leg brace, driving, walking a lot without even a cane, wrist fracture doing well. And best of all, I can take a real, standing up shower…first since Aug. 21! All of this has sure made me appreciate the little things in life that we normally take for granted.

I’m so happy to hear this Roxanne! You’ve had a tough go of it. I’ll bet that shower was nirvana. Thanks for your prayers. We need all we can get.

Glad to hear that you’re working with UC Davis.. They’re the best! When we lived in CA, they treated our cat. While our cat did not recover, I felt that he was in the best hands possible. Now we have a dog and while I still love cats, there’s something very special about the relationship between a dog and its owners. Sending prayers, love, and wishes that your puppy gets well soon.

I’m sorry to hear about your kitty Heather. I feel the same about UC Davis. They are doing the very best for her and I will be forever grateful. No matter the outcome.

I LOVE the Sarto Paivley Bootie in Sandstone Suede, but I have no idea of how to style a light colored bootie (I’ve always worn black). Any suggestions? thanks.

    • November 9, 2017 / 9:20 am

If your hair color is similar I would simply use it in place of black. Otherwise try it with brown or taupe leggings and or jeans. It would also be cute with tights and a skirt. In that case wear tights in a similar color to the bootie.

Thanks, Jennifer. Yes, I’m a blonde, though I’ve never thought of my hair as part of my outfit (great idea!). I usually don’t wear brown or taupe, but I may try that. With a skirt, are you saying to wear sandstone/tan tights? With any color skirt? I’m switching my wardrobe from black to navy, so I’m struggling with a non-black-based world!

        • November 10, 2017 / 8:59 am

It would be a pretty neutral with navy. Browns are frequently warm based but the cool based ones are gorgeous on blondes. Wearing shoes or boots in your hair color helps the eye loop head to toe. They would look good with any color pant. Try them with jeans too. With tights, try to match the intensity to the bootie or your feet will draw the eye rather than your outfit or face. It’s all about contrast and focus. Colors with huge contrast draw the most attention.

Stay in the present…that is my prescription for sanity while waiting…I mean live in the absolute minute…You are drinking a coffee…dwell on the taste, texture, smell…Don’t let your thoughts wander into the what-ifs…This advice is from the worst waiter in history and the one who also writes volumes about her life as seen through the fiction lens…You know what could happen complete with characters and outcomes before the results come…BEST! You’re very wise Deede! I struggle with the same thing. All. The. Time. I almost took her back to the hospital last night because I worried what might happen overnight. Thanks my friend.
