The Power of Asymmetry in Fashion for Woman Over 50

Today I’m sharing the magic of asymmetry. Welcome to Hit Your Style Sweet Spot, my collaboration with Pam from Over50Feeling40. Youā€™ve hit your Style Sweet Spot when your appearance is sending the message you intend, and you feel confident that you look your best.

Asmmetry is a powerful tool for the Woman Over 50 looking to slim her silhoutte.

I love everything about thisĀ Fiore Asymmetrical TunicĀ by Carol Turner, from Artful Home. The fabric hasĀ undulating pleats that add fabulous texture.

Style Tip- wearing texture and pattern near your face, reduces the appearance of facial texture/wrinkles.

I love its off-center neckline. The diagonal seam down the center repeatsĀ on the back and is very slimming.

Style Tip- Diagonal seams and asymmetrical lines in garments are more slimming than straight lines.

Here’s a close-up of the texture. It’s form-fitting but skims rather than clings and the pleats help hide our lumps and bumps. Artful Home carries 3 different style tops in this fabric, and it comes in 4 colors. I made need the white one for summer:)

The rolling hemline and lettuce-edging adds a nice feminine touch to this Italian Fiore Knit Tunic

The hemline and sleeves have a lettuce-edge, which is pretty and feminine. Feminine is not a big part of my style recipe, so I keep it to a minimum. I love how the rolling hemline adds softness to its simple fit. A straight hemline would have looked boxy. The 3/4 sleeves are a perfect way to showcase bracelets.

Style Tip- 3/4 length sleeves help a woman appear taller.

White is appropriate year round and feels fresh with spring right around the corner.Ā These are my Soft Surroundings, Metro Leggings. I love that they have no front zipper or snap, so don’t add bulk to my tummy. They’re a pull-on style with 3 way stretch and very comfortable. You’ll be seeing me wearing these a lot!

It’s such a warm, sunny day, I broke out some sandals and my vintage, Kate Spade wicker handbag. Nothing says Spring to me like wicker!

Simple accessories allow this top to take center stage. A necklace would have distracted from this unique neckline. Earrings and bracelet are the perfect touch.

Now lets pop over to see how Pam hits her Style Sweet Spot!

Thanks for reading and have a great day.

I’ve never realized that a wrinkled top will make my facial wrinkles appear less pronounced. Great idea! The older I get the less I want plastic surgery…this works better! Thanks Jennifer…

  2. You look so well put together from head to toe. I adore the basket type purse and chunky bangle bracelet too.

    1. Thank you so much Annette!
I like the contrast between the texture in the purse and the bracelet šŸ™‚

  3. What a wonderful outfit, and I love the bag! For some reason, I always feel better when my top covers my bum when I’m wearing white. xoxo, Brenda

  4. Hi Jen,
I totally agree–I’m all about the power of the asymmetrical pieces. I’m wearing one right now and have had several compliments today. This navy number is lovely on you. I love how you styled it with white pants. Body skimming is such a key.
    Looking beautiful, as usual!
    xx

  5. Love this look. I’ve been purchasing more and more tunics this year and I keep asking myself why. But I think it must be how easy they are to style and how flattering they make a woman appear. Excellent style tips, my friend, thank you for sharing.

  6. I adore that shirt and love anything asymmetrical as well. I am popping over to Artful Home to snag one!

  7. Looking good there Jennifer…love the whole outfit especially the bag and shoes!

  8. I love tunics. They are relaxing to wear, stay in place and can cover a multitude of sins. This one is especially lovely. My daughter gave me one for my birthday and I have yet to wear it. It’s white, soft and lovely.

    1. Wear it Beth! It sounds perfect. I do love how they hide a multitude of sins šŸ™‚

  9. That’s a very pretty knit. You look terrific!

  10. Love the top and the entire look. This has become my go-to ensemble (longer asymmetrical top, slim slacks) for most casual outings…it’s comfy and stylish. You carry it off beautifully!

    1. Thanks Roxanne. If stylish isn’t comfy, it’s not my style! This is my favorite silhouette too.

  11. It looks great on you but I am of mixed minds about asymmetry and 3/4 sleeves on me. I love that top, though. I own a lot of Soft Surroundings clothes. You’ve reminded me to buy those leggings.

    1. You’ll love the Metro Leggings. I wear mine constantly.

  12. Wonderful look! I really like the tunic! The asymmetrical neck- and hemlines add so much interest to the tunic and so does the texture! You made me aware of the fact that textures and patterns near your face reduce the appearance of “facial texture,” and I have been paying attention to it… And I love that the leggings have no front zipper; I hate the weird bulk zippers often add…

    1. That bulk of zipper and snap has aways bothered me. If I can find pants with side and back zippers, I always buy them too.

    1. Thanks Sandra :).I did discuss it extensively on our blab today, if you care to watch the replay. I’ll work some of it into a future post!

  15. Jennifer, I beg to differ. Your outfit is perfectly lovely for women across all age groups šŸ™‚ with some changes of accessories, I do feel it’s flattering for any and every female. Which, at the end of the day, is the crux of the matter. Style is ageless. You’ve demonstrated it with panache here. Have a lovely Sunday and week ahead xo

    1. I’m not sure what you differ with Sheela. I didn’t infer my outfit wouldn’t flatter women across all age groups. This top would be flattering on most all women! I write predominantly for the woman over 50, but my style tips apply to every woman.

  16. Such a great look! I love your top, and that bag is just the cutest!

  17. What a fabulous outfit – you look very stylish.

  18. That handbag is great! I also love asymmetric skirts!

  19. You are right…this is such a slimming garment and just beautiful on you. A perfect style of brunch any day!
