Summer Wardrobe Essential: White Shirt

Happy Tuesday ladies! We are kicking off a short week with my second summer wardrobe essential. We all have differentĀ go-to pieces that we relyĀ on to make getting dressed easy. Many that work for you, won’t work for me and vice versa but I encourageĀ you to keep your options open and try new things. I shared my first summer essentialĀ hereĀ and today I am wearing my second, a white shirt.

WHITE LINEN SHIRTS

Yesterday I wore my Eileen Fisher white linen shirt to explore downtown Nevada City. We love its small-town vibe, quaint shops, and great eateries. To my white shirt, I added Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life exploring Nevada City wearing Eileen Fisher

Not every woman likes or is flattered by a white shirt but I love them. I have a collection of classic and not so classic styles which provide me a foolproof way to get dressed.Ā Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Eileen Fisher

My white shirts are often crisp cotton but I also collect linen ones. I have long, mid-length and short white shirts I like to tie around my waist. I wear long ones like this over narrow pants so my backside is covered.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Eileen Fisher linen shirt

We stopped for coffee and peopleĀ watching before having a fabulous lunch. Am I the only one who likes hotĀ coffee on hot days? Honestly?Ā I needed the caffeine and it was perfect to enjoy in the shade.

I used myĀ parasol rather than a hat because it was in the mid 90’s and my head perspires in very hot weather. I have a collection of parasols for hot days which offer much more protection than any hat can.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life carrying Persole Shade umbrella

This town had some adorable shops that I don’t remember from previous visits. The third one I wandered into was amazing and had a hat with my name on it! I heard my husband mumble “are we shopping?” and realized I was;) Funny how fast that happens when you see things you like. I will go back later without him and check them out properly.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Eileen Fisher

I wore my new silver wedges which are amazingly comfy. I had a pair of these last year which my son’s dog ate the first dayĀ I had them. They’re likely meant for poolside wear but I find myself reaching for them often because they are beyond cushiony. They are 100% synthetic… as in rubber! Remember jelly shoes?

Are you a fan of white shirts?

Thanks for reading ladies and have a great day!

  1. I was wondering if you purchase the Eileen Fisher crepe pants in a petite or regular? They seem just the right length on you and look great!

    1. I buy regular length because I put them in the dryer and they shrink up a tiny bit in length. That said, the last new pair I tried on was way too long in regular!

I have always loved white shirts. They have been the staple of my wardrobe forever. However, I have felt in the past few years that finding a white shirt you can’t see through is a real challenge. I can’t stand a cami under my shirts, especially in the hot summer months. Any suggestions of a good white shirt you can’t see through would be appreciated!
    Love the pink!

    1. Iā€™ve had very good luck with the no iron versions from Chicos and Foxcroft.

The pop of pink looks great on you. Love the earrings, bag and parasol. Very put together and just enough colour without over doing it. What a great little township. Your lifestyle change is suiting you.

    1. Thanks Claire! We are having fun exploring and finding new things.

  4. I also love to wear a white shirt.
My husband and I love Nevada City and Grassvalley. We don’t live all that far from both cities. Good day trip.

    1. Theyā€™re both adorable cities. You must be close to where we live!

  5. I tend to wear only tee shirts, but now I am thinking I should invest in white linen shirt!
Wondering if your “jellies” make your feet hot/sweaty? They look so cute and comfortable.

    1. Because they are an open weave they do not make my feet perspire. Closed rubber shoes would be tortuous.

      1. Thanks! I will think about trying them. Also, I am a 10 1/2, so good to know about sizing down.
So much more stylish than my go-to flip-flops! (even “fancy”ones…)

  6. I can’t wear white shirts because they are all see-through and my bras are not pretty.
My bras always turn gray with repeated washings.

I love hot coffee even during very hot Texas summers.

    1. Many have thicker fabrics these days. Check out the Chicos no iron collection. If needed, a cami can help with coverage.

  7. I would love to have seen the hat! Be sure to show us when you go back.

    1. I will snap a picture of it. I love all hats but treasures are few and far between

  8. I love white shirts! There are 5 long sleeved, a couple of t-shirts, they are a staple for the hot Oklahoma summers. And I drink coffee in the afternoons, too, love my coffee! Love your posts, you show us how to be stylish at any age! That town looks great to meander around!

    1. Then Iā€™m in great company with my coffee. Thanks for being here Ramona

  9. I’m loving your website. You give such expert insight on subjects such as hair, makeup, clothing, color, style, accessories, and I could go on and on. I am 70 and have discovered pull up pants/jeans from Chico’s. I will never go back to zippered/snap/button pants again.
Also love your photos. You look pulled together and always classy. Have a beautiful day!

    1. Thanks Donna, I am happy you’re here and like what you read! Pull-on jeans are a great invention:)

  10. White shirt addict here…I have cotton for cooler dressing and linen for the barbaric weather the Midwest is having today…I wear them alone, over a tee, over a dress and I always feel dressed and pulled together with them…Perfect way to up an outfit and make effortless chic…Great post…

Yup, I, too, drink hot coffee in hot weather…Something about the needed boost…
Enjoy shopping and definitely go back to thoroughly appreciate…smile…the wonderful offerings…

    1. It’s really heating up here so I expect to wear a lot of white going forward;) xx

  11. I love the color of the lipstick and earrings on you. Looks beautiful with your eyes. I just bought a Brahmin bag in that same color and am loving! Hope you are too!

    1. Loving it…????????ā€ā™€ļø

    2. Iā€™m totally loving it! Itā€™s my first Brahmin bag but it wonā€™t be my last!

White shirts/tops are a must for me. I remember walking out of a shop with nothing but several different white shirts once! My head perspires terribly, too. If you find a solution, please post it. I’m thinking of using an antiperspirant on my head!

  13. Such a cute outfit. I LOVE the umbrella. I’ve seen it in design mags. Very chic! XO

  14. I have never worn white shirts like this, but I must say you certainly very cool Jennifer.

  15. I love white shirts year-round! The shoes are cute….just checked and wondering if you ordered the next whole size up as suggested? Thanks!

    1. I have a question. Do u wear a cami or tank top under your white shirts?

      1. I wear a nude one if the shirt is not opaque. Occasionally I will wear a white lace one.

    2. I did not because I usually go down a size in backless shoes. I hate having a lot of sole showing behind my heel.

  16. Isn’t Nevada City the cutest? We love to pop up there when temps rise above 100 degrees here. My husband is always so patient with me while I wander through shops – he and his friend have coined a phrase “aimless wandering” for our excursions.

I’m loving your linen shirt and may have to spring for the Eileen Fisher version. I know how soft they are. I have a couple of JJill linen shirts and find they tend to be stiff. Is that your experience too?

    1. Itā€™s the most adorable town! Thereā€™s a new shop with the most amazing natural fiber clothes. Have you been there? My EF linen is more expensive than JJillā€™s but tissue soft year after year. Some things are worth investing in. I donā€™t have a JJill top but do have their linen pants which are heavier weight and stiffer, which is fine for pants.

      1. I haven’t been, but will definitely check it out when we go next! Thanks for the tip.
