Dressing Room Diaries: Spring Petites at Macy’s

I had a good laugh at myself yesterday. I’d learned that a brand I like had opened a new brick and mortar store near me. Google gave their location and said they were open 7 days a week so I drove over to do DRD. After wandering the streets for 15 minutes I realized the store is still under construction! Note to self, phone and check.

Since I was out I decided to visit my semi renovated Macy’s and zeroĀ in on the petite department.

STRIPE PANTS | COLOR BLOCK TOP

These Striped Palazzo Pants don’t really have a palazzo leg so I would call them full legged. They’re a pull-onĀ style with a sash belt which I’dĀ probably remove. I styled them with this Color Blocked top which was not a good mix. The top also wasn’t flattering on me because my shoulders are wide. I’d look better with the colors reversed. This would look good on a woman with narrower shoulders.

LACE TOP | PANTS

Then I tried on this Lace Ruffled TopĀ with pull-onĀ pants. The top comes in 3 colors but I gravitated to this Rare Rose. The lace is not the finest quality but is on sale and passes the 5-foot test and is pretty.

This Angel Sleeve Bubble top was prettier on the hanger than on me because its blouson shape enlarges my torso. The colors are very pretty and springlike. This would be a betterĀ proportion on a woman who is narrower on top or has an hourglass figure.

ANORAK JACKET | SLIM PANTS

This Anorak Rain jacketĀ is a great length on me. It comes in 7 colors. I am wearing the Cream Blush, It’s such a flattering color and would brighten any drizzly day. It has a foldover collar with detachable hood, a zip and snap front closure and cinch-able drawstring waist. I loved it.

This Ruffle Sleeve Faux Leather coat was really cute but the exact wrong shade for me. I need cooler tones so this would be wonderful on a woman who wears warmer tones. This is also too small for me but I wanted youĀ to see it.

I also tried it on inĀ this Dusty Pink which is delicate and pretty. I’m a fan of colored denim so love the option inĀ a jean jacket.

I’m wearing these Tummy-control pull-on Skinny PantsĀ for everyĀ look here. I’m showing 4 of the 6 colors they come in. They fit beautifully and are a stunning everyday value at $39.98.

I’m so glad you encouraged me to check out Macy’s! I’m thinking I may need this pink denim jacket too!

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

  1. I am 5’4 and 143 but I have hips. Do you think the tummy control skinny pants would work for me? Thanks. I am learning so much from your posts.

    1. Try on several styles to see what works best for you. They can be very helpful.

Jennifer, I enjoy how you show what works and what does not. You are so right ! I love the pale pink denim and anorak jackets on you. They definitely work well for a feminine style that is up to date. You really know what works! I appreciate the pics of the clothes that donā€™t work & why, too. You are a blessing, my friend, because I have a similar body type and I agree with the things you point out about why a certain piece does or doesnā€™t work. Good information!

What a great denim jacket on you and I love all the skinny pants too.You look like you had fun.
I love the colour blocked top as it would suit my narrow shoulders and small bust.
I really enjoy Dressing Room Diaries šŸ™‚

    1. I did buy the denim jacket. It was too flattering to pass up and it is I on sale so double win. Thanks for reading Julie!

  5. Love the anorak style but do not like the color on you. I would think you suit cool tones better. The jean jacket is great for you and the pants are fab, wish we had a Macy’s in Vancouver. I love that you try styles that would look good on other people ( very helpful ). Your post is great, I also like your personality very down to earth. Keep them coming.

    1. I agree about that anorak color. I wish it came in sky blue! Iā€™m so glad you like these. Thanks for reading Shirley.

Some pretty and interesting pieces, Jennifer. I always love your Dressing Room Diaries series. I think you should get the light pink denim jacket. I bought a moto style denim jacket in very near the same color several years ago, and it has been a favorite ever since.

    1. The one I tried on was too large so I did order the pink after seeing the pictures:)

  7. I love the denim jacket on you — perfect fit and length! I heartily recommend the Macy’s anorak if you can find it in a color you like better. It’s been my Europe travel go-to for years. You can roll it up, stuff in in a daypack, and it looks fine when you take it out. The built-in hood that rolls up into the collar is super-convenient.
Don’t you love these new spring colors? I’ve really been gravitating to the clear pinks myself (not the beige-y ones, which are deadly on me). Keep us posted on what you find!

    1. I can see how it would be invaluable for travel! It does have a gorgeous blue I may have to order to see if it’s too bright or not.

  8. Love the jean jacket. Will stop by Macy’s and check it out. I am in between xl and l.
    Thanks!

  9. I love the blush anorak. It looks more coral on my iPad than pink. I like the shape they give with the drawstring waist. The flutter sleeve top is lovely, so soft and feminine. I would buy that in regular.
I have the jean jacket and love the shaping. It looks great over so many outfits. I bought a red leather jacket last year, very similar to the one youā€™re wearing. I wore it once. Another mistake hanging in my closet. Iā€™m not sure why I donā€™t wear it more often, as I love red.
I havenā€™t been out spring shopping yet this year but it is fun to see whatā€™s out there in your DRD.

    1. Leather is hard for many women to wear. I donā€™t care for it myself. I actually have a post coming out on why! The anorak is more coral than pink which is too warm for me. Your computer probably shows it accurately. Have a great weekend.

  10. Do you ever shop Anthropologie?

    1. Often. I love their unique styles. My current handbag is from there.

  11. Ann Griffin says:

Thank you for this great post. I just ordered the pants in grey and the light pink denim jacket. What is the store you tried to find that is still under construction? Iā€™m looking forward to it!

    1. Thatā€™s a great color combo! Itā€™s a Soft Surroundings going in. Canā€™t wait.

  12. Thank you so much for the DR Diary! I also loved that rain coat on you. I’m going to have to look into that denim jacket and those skinny pants. Too Cute!

  13. Rita Loehr says:

That dusty pink jacket really looks nice on you with your coloring! Hope you scoop it up! Love the denim and the style also. So sad our Macyā€™s did away with Petites!????

    1. This petite section was microscopic but I was thrilled to find it! Yes, I think I need that pink jacket!

  14. You are so good at analyzing your outfits, that is a true talent. I was in Costco last summer when they had Gloria Vanderbilt Amanda jeans on sale for $10 in all sorts of colors. Because I know they fit me without trying them on, I scooped up pale pink, coral, and light aqua. Then I had my accident and couldnā€™t wear them, so now I have 3 new pairs of jeans for this spring!!

    1. Those sound gorgeous for spring and summer! Iā€™m so glad youā€™re better. That was awful for you. Life can really surprise us with the most unfortunate incidents.

  15. I enjoy the DR diaries posts! That denim jacket is very flattering on you and you had some great pieces even if they were not all the best choice for you. That’s why I will always need to shop in store when buying clothes.

    1. I tried on several things I knew were not right for me but thought others might like.
