Palm Springs at the Peak

Yesterday was aĀ warm day, so we decided to the take the tram up to the peak of San Jacinto state park wilderness. I wouldn’t say I have a fear of heights, of course, I do, but it’sĀ not my favorite thing. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is the worldā€™s largest rotating tram car. It revolves as it ascendsĀ to 8516 feet elevation. Such white-knuckledĀ fun:)

I wore my sun hat which was insane because I needed a ski hat and warm clothes. Luckily this hat travels well. I folded it in half, rolled it into a cone, then put it into my tote.

The ride up was amazing, and the views were stunning.

from the tram in Palm SpringsWe traveled up with a group of tourists who loved to squeal each time the tram swayed. Just what my nerves needed. By the time we got to the top, I was freezing! staying warm up the tramway in Palm SpringsLuckily, I’d packed this light jacket in my now critical tote bag. HowĀ did I survive life without a tote bag?

The west facing decks were closed because of strong winds. The east facing decks offered amazingĀ views of the entire valley. On top of the Mt San Jacinto tramWe wandered around for several hours soaking up the amazing scenery then headed back down. I swear the ride down seemed much faster, but it could have been my imagination.

Tomorrow we’re heading to Rancho Mirage to do some shopping and scope out a famous vintageĀ consignmentĀ shop.

Do you shop in vintage shops? How about consignmentĀ shops?

  1. You were very brave to use the tram.

The first consignment shop I ever went to was in Palm Springs. It got me hooked. Enjoy your search.

    1. I look forward to visiting several here!

  2. What an adventure! Glad you had that jacket in your tote bag! A large bag is indeed very convenient… The view looks amazing!

    Enjoy your shopping outing!

    1. It was quite the experience! But shopping is not fun.

You need to read the recent post and comments of a fellow blogger at Anna’s Island Style! !
MANY of your fellow bloggers and their followers shop thrift and consignment almost exclusively.

    1. I’m excited to share what I found!

  5. Cannot wait to see what you find at the consignment shop! The tram looks a little scary…I think I would rather shop!

    1. I would rather shop too:)

  6. Ah, Palm Springs is my sister’s and my favorite place to get together for Sister’s trips. We’ve hung out a few times at Colony Palms hotel – a little boutique place, very zen and perfect for talking for hours and hours into the night out poolside. Last time we were there, Michele Dockery was chilling there as well, after the Emmy’s in LA. We’ve never taken the tram – you’ve inspired me to suggest it next time. Looks like fun – albeit, as you said, white knuckled fun.

    1. We’ll have to stop in the Colony Palms for a glass of wine. It sounds just up our alley.

  7. I love shopping consignment, vintage and thrift stores, especially smaller ones where the quantity of goods to search through isn’t overwhelming. Price is an attraction, of course, but it’s the fun of the search and the treasures I find that I love most.

    1. I think finding unique treasures is a great part of the appeal for me. I don’t want to wear what everyone else does. And if I do, I want to add unique accessories to personalize the look.

  8. You are brave to go up that tram! There is a small one at Grouse Mountain in Vancouver and another one at Whistler both rides made me nervous!
I wonder if that consignment store is the one my sister shops at when they are at their desert home? Please share more of what you find…I love a great thrift, vintage or consignment shop!

    1. I went up tram at Squamish last summer and thought that was scary šŸ™‚ I’ll write a post I’d it. I’d love to know the name of the one your sister shops at.

  9. I remember one time we took the tram…it was Christmas Eve and 65F on the valley floor. When we reached the top it was actually snowing! Glad you took the ride; it’s well worth it.

    1. It was well worth it!!

  10. I love to shop vintage and consignment shops ! One mans, or womans, trash is another mans treasure ! I have sold many things at a consignment shop as well. Look forward to seeing your posts on the subject.

    1. I’m excited to go see what treasures I can find!

  11. I love consignment, vintage and thrift shops for many reasons – price; the pleasure of the hunt or the find; the recycling concept; and the sheer variety of styles, items, ideas… they are places full of treasures and fun. I find them more delightful than standard retail. Enjoy your day and may you have lovely discoveries!

    1. Im really excited to see it!

  12. Hi Jennifer, OMG – I’m terrified of heights so that would have made me physically ill. You are tough and beautiful! I’m a huge fan of totes when I’m traveling and have quite a collection of totes that I’ve bought over the years. The good leather ones last forever and generally stay in style. I don’t shop consignments shops very often but I do enjoy the higher scale ones. I so enjoy your posts.

    1. I was a bit weak at the knees:) I’m just coming to appreciate tote bags! This red one has been my constant companion for this trip. I wish I had others to swap it with. I’m excited to see this consignment shop. My friend Elizabeth says it’s wonderful. Vacations are for trying new things right? So why not! I’ll let you know what I find.

      1. Suzanne W. Sanders says:

Jennifer, if it’s allowed to do so, can you post the ‘name’ of the consignment shop? I am to be in Palm Springs, visiting cousins, from Jan.18-23, and if the store is quite special, would love to take a ‘peek’……How to pack for Palm Springs seems to be the standard answer: layers! Nice in the daytime, cool with sun, but my cousins say it can be quite chilly at night. They have a Condo at Rancho Mirage. Would you say the general ‘dress’ for Palm Spring is: what is termed ‘dressy casual’? Although we will eat at some nice restaurants, I feel sure, these cousins are not ones to seek out the extreme end of the price point in dining. I therefore feel that I need not bring a ‘dressy dress’. Thank you, Jennifer, love your Blog, too. Have just had some worrisome ‘spots’ taken off my face, so you can bet that I am bringing both sunscreen and a good hat that ‘folds’ in my suitcase. Enjoy your own days in P.S.!

      2. The dress code is casual everywhere we’ve been. Layers are critical because the temps swing a lot from Morning to evening. Probably not so much the later in the year it gets. The first stop will be Re-Deaux.
