Mixing up Black for Warm Weather
My wardrobe has a lot of black in it. I love its simplicity and how easy it is to coordinate. It creates a wonderful blank canvas on which to showcase accessories and is invaluable for travel. It looks stylish in all but the cheapest fabrics…and even then it’s chic. In short, it hides a multitude of sins and makes life easy.
Moving to a warmer climate means I’ll change how and when I wear black. I won’t give it up because it’s part of my personal style recipe and I feel confident wearing it.
I have many favorite pieces in black but they soak up more heat than the same item in a lighter color.
Tuesday I wore a column of black with a touch of gray for a day of running errands. My cotton tee is sleeveless and the duster is silk which are both natural fibers so they breathe and feel cool. The pants are not a natural fiber but the sandals saved them.
I pinned my hair up which felt cooler instantly then I added a hat for the sun.
Head to toe black worked this day but as the temps pass 90 I will be wanting lighter colors and natural fabrics. I expect black to become the supporting color rather than my usual column color.

I seldom wear black in the summer. I love a colum of black and wear it often but in the warmer weather I reach for lighter colours. I don’t do well in the heat. It seems to zaps all my energy. I lived in a very hot place and found venturing out in the morning and evening became my routine. In the heat of the afternoons, I stayed in an air conditioned building.
You look wonderful in your big brimmed hat and duster. Be extra careful in that sun!
The heat zaps my energy too. It should be interesting to see how I do in this hotter climate.
Love that duster and the big hat on you! Gorgeous! Here in the hot and humid South, there is not too much black except in a professional setting. I do have a few black tops I pair with white slacks or white jeans.
The humidity does make everything feel hotter so I totally see why. I’d live in white linen all the time if I could.

Agree you look great in hats! My mom, who worked as a milliner back in the fifties used to say ‘ the woman must wear the hat not the other way around. ‘She was talking about proportion and how the hat was set on the head. She also said there were just some women who could ‘wear’ a hat, any hat and look fabulous. Lucky you, you’re one of the blessed!
Yes I pretty much do black all year round, just in lighter fabrics for the warmer months…if they ever get here!!
I do love hats! Some look goofy on me (upturned brims and baseball caps) so I avoid them. I’ve git black linen I adore and that will come out soon!

I love this look and would wear it in a heartbeat….but I must confess you wear hats better than most people I know. I wear black all the time…all year long…and that will never change.

I, too, use black as a core color, but I find that I am developing a warm-hot weather wardrobe for North Carolina weather. This one is in light tan, white, navy, and light blue, mostly linen plus linen-cotton tops.
