Look of the Week: Mixing Grays
How was your weekend? Ours wasĀ chilly, rainy and gray so we hibernated at home and made huge pots of homemade soup. We love having healthy soup to thaw during the winter and often have just a bowl or two with a small salad for dinner.
The skies cleared on Sunday so we got out for some fresh air.
I wore gray and black with some texture and pattern mixed in.
I’m not a huge fan of patterns but have fully embraced black and white check. It gives the appearance of gray and coordinates just as easily.
I wore it with a textured fuzzy vest, matte black sweater, and black suede boots. Shiny leather booties would draw the eye to my feet, more than suede does. Don’t get me wrong. I love these booties but I’d rather have the eye focus further up my silhouette.
I opted for simpleĀ silver jewelry which appears gray and chose pink lipstick which is softer than red and a nice balance to the gray.
Are you a fan of monochromatic dressing?
Thanks for reading ladies and have a great day.
Love this outfit and this is a great picture of you!
Thanks so much Maryann
You are looking very hip in this outfit! I also agree with others that your hair is looking great! I like monochromatic but struggle to keep the look from being boring. Not so for this look! There is enough texture and variation/depth of colour to prevent that. I also wouldn’t have thought about toning down the lip colour. I might have done the opposite trying to get more colour.
Thanks so much Janet. My hair has been shedding lately so I am trying a few new things to add volume.
You look awesome in this outfit! Love, love it! Your hair looks wonderful, and the glasses really complement the entire look.
Thanks so much Kathy, I do struggle with my hair
You look very stylish and on trend in this outfit, Jennifer!
Thanks Joanna
You look terrific…your hair, your outfit, your glow! You look happy and very stylish too.
Thanks so much Paulette. You’re so sweet.
Can you share some of your favorite soup recipes? I’d love to make some good soup!
I have shared a few…the latest one is here. I’ll try to photograph a few more as we make them and share
This is a great look and I love the way you’ve put it together. I am loving gray and find it to coordinate with so many things in my wardrobe. That fuzzy vest is great. I’ve been gravitating to vests this year and that’s a great one.
I’ve been gravitating to vests this year too. I find them such a great alternative to coats and jackets.
I LOVE your hair and this look!

Looks great on you! I especially like your hair color and style. You can wear gray well, but it it is not a good color for me. Btw, yay to homemade soup! And cozying in on cold days!
It’s wonderful to have frozen option to pull out later. We do it all winter long
I, like Mary above, look sickly in gray. I’m a light summer color type by the way. I do prefer monochromatic outfits.
Monochromatic dressing is an easier way for me to get dressed. If you look sickly in gray, avoiding it is smart;)
You look so pulled together in this, love it all and you look great!
Thanks so much Carol!
I find gray to be a hard color to wear, especially around my face, it seems to leech color and life away. So I stick to pants and skirts in gray tones.
It can be draining if it’s not your color. A bright scarf might help it be more flattering. Sticking with gray for pants, skirts, and shoes is also a great way to go.
great look jennifer! i love a monochromatic look especially gray!
Thanks, Cindy. Gray is definitely a favorite this season.
Such a great and timeless look. Love the mixture of textures as well as the mix of grays.
Thank you Elizabeth. I felt great wearing it.
So classy! I really love this monochromatic dressing – especially the texture and that vest! You look great!
Thanks Jackie
I LOVE this look and you look fantastic wearing it!!
Thanks so much Sondra, I felt great wearing it.
