Treat Yourself To The Luxuries You Deserve

Simple treats and small luxuries are so important to my well being. It’s easy to let these go when life gets hectic, but that’s just when I need them most!

Some of my essentials…

  • Comfortable shoes. At this age we should be treating our tootsies with the kindness they deserve. They’ve carried us many miles and deserve to be pampered. The luxurious feel of well padded, well fitting shoes can not be underestimated. The car to restaurant shoes just aren’t worth it anymore.Ā

  • The ability to simply say no. No, when we don’t have time…no, when we simply don’t want to. No is our privilege and Ā it’s high time we used it to our advantage. No, without an excuse or explanation tacked on the end. A simple, “No thanks, that won’t work for me”.

  • Silence… the joy of quiet time. Time to hear your own thoughts. Time to hear the small sounds of nature, continually drowned out by the busyness of life

  • Candles…I light candles everyday. Each morning I light a scented candles and enjoy my tea while I read and/or daydream. In the evening we burn unscented Ā candles at the dining room table and at least one or more on the coffee table while we sit and relax.
Candle ambience in a motor home
I brought our linens, cloth napkins and silverware on our Motorhome trip.

  • Ā Soft fabrics…touching your body. In both your clothes and hopefully on your furniture. Cashmere, silk and velvet all feel luxurious. For tactile enjoyment, a soft cotton, flannel or jersey all feel luxurious against your skin.

  • Pleasant sounds…surround yourself with as much as you can. Laughter, singing, your favorite music. While driving your car…Ā it’s your radio, play what you like. Listen to the classics, jazz or rock & roll if that’s your true love. For me it’s classic piano pieces. Listen to what makes you feel happy!

  • Fine books….every library has Ā hardcover books to freely borrow. There is something distinctly enjoyable about the weight of a hardcover book in your hand. A paperback is convenient and less expensive to purchase but nothing beats the weight of a hardcover book in my hand.

  1. Oh how did I miss this ‘luxuriating’ post? Hmmm…must have been the dual Thanksgiving celebrations we hosted. I love your list. I’m all about creating a warm and cozy ambiance in my space. Scented candles, fresh flowers, luxurious fabrics and mood music (depends on my mood) do the trick for me. Lovely post!

      1. Right on the money J ! And the book must be hardbound too; the softcovers just cheapen that tactile sensation. I’m a late arrival re candles but love them too.
