Little Black Dress For Casual and Holiday Events

My last walk through Costco showed Halloween and Christmas decor! How’d that happen so fast? Before we know it, we’ll be doing spring cleaning. Even though I just stored away my linen clothes, experience tells me it’s not too soon to start thinking about what you’ll want to wear for upcoming holiday events.

Today I am partnering with Lily Silk to introduce their Little Black Dress collectionĀ which is on sale with a special discount for my readers.

I have many LBD’s in my wardrobe but none quite like this one.

This versatile V-Neck dress has a crossoverĀ twistĀ front that is tacked closed so there’s no gaping when you move about or bend over. I love that! It’s both ladylike and modest. It’s made from 100% Crepe de chine, lightweight and wrinkle resistant.

TWIST FRONT DRESS

It also has something many other dresses don’t have, sleeves! I don’tĀ know about you but I love not needing to wear a jacket, wrap or cardigan to cover my upper arms.

Here it is dressed up with my Grandmothers necklace and earrings, a simple wrap, black clutch, and low heels. This would take me toĀ the Ballet,Ā a concert or fancy holiday party.

Since my life is pretty casual I decided to also show you how I will style it for travel, daytime or a quick dinner out.

I switched the crystal jewelry for simple silver hoops and added a casual link bracelet. I changed the clutch for my daily tote bag, heels for ballet flats and wrap for thisĀ classic cardigan.

ESSENTIAL V-NECK CARDIGAN

I love this Essential V-Neck cardigan.Ā It’s a very soft blend of 85% Mulberry Silk and 15% cashmere with mother of pearl buttons down the front. Since I prefer my necklines to match, this V-neck shape coordinatesĀ with most of my clothes. It’s classic shape dresses up or down and you will see me wearing it many other ways this fall and winter!

I have shared Lily Silk with you many times. I love that their products are made from the finest Grade A mulberry silk and certified to be free from harmful substances and toxic dyes by the Swiss Authoritative OEKO-TEX.

For reference, I am 5’4″, weigh approx 142 lbs and am wearing a medium in both the dress and the sweater.

To help get you ready for the season, Lily Silk is offering my readers 10% off their Little Black Dress collection until October 24th with the code awellstyle10 at checkout.

As always, Lily Silk is giving you 15% off full priced items with the code awellstyledlife. This might be a great time to start your holiday shopping or get yourself those silk pillow slips you’ve heard such great things about.

They are also offeringĀ $10 off $200 orders untilĀ October 8th.

Have you thought about the holidays yet? They’re not that far off.

Thanks for reading and supporting the brands that allow me to continue bringing you new styles.

Thanks to Lily Silk for partnering on this post. They provided the dress and sweater and I was compensated. As always, all styling and opinions are my own.

Very disappointed with the dress and lilysilk didnā€™t include return information . I wrote to them and got no response.

    1. Iā€™m sorry to hear that Gail. Were you wanting to return it?

  2. Esther DeGeus says:

I ordered the dress in a small and it is HUGE on me. I usually wear between a small and extra small at all stores, but this runs large. Considering how much too big it is I don’t even think an extra small would fit. I hope I can return and get my money back.

    1. I do hope they will allow for returns. I always encourage ladies to verify return policies before ordering online.

  3. That is a really nice dress. Love the hem.

I loved the black dress and ordered it immediately after reading your post this morning. If it fits and looks good itā€™ll be great for travel. It looks like it packs well.

  5. I am 4’9′ and have gained up to 156 due to hypothyroidism that the doctor is trying to adjust. Do you think the dress would work in a large for me or would it look like a short person is in a regular size? I wear Eileen Fisher petite large or medium regular, depending on the cut. I just love the look of the dress.

    1. I think it would be fine but you would need to hem the bottom up several inches. The waistline would blouse over a bit on you which should look just fine. Check their return policy just in case it’s not right on you Kris.

  6. Jennifer, I had never considered matching my necklines, nor have I heard anyone else mention it. Something to consider when putting outfits together. May require new clothes!

    1. I can’t always do it but it’s more pleasing to the eye when they do. The same goes for jacket necklines and tops under them.

  7. Is the bodice stitched at the neck or does the wrap gape open? The sleeves are a good touch, not too long yet long enough to do the job.

    1. The bodice is tacked closed right where the V ends, so it does not gap or expose anything.

  8. Jennifer, I bought the white shirt and vest from Covered Perfectly you had on the other day. I received the package in just a couple of day. I just loved them. . I have had so many compliments on both. Thanks for introducing that company to us.

    1. My pleasure Cathy, I’m so happy you like them. That vest is so versatile…have fun trying it different ways.

  9. Great dress! My height and weight is nearly the same as yours, just one inch taller. What size do you wear in this dress?

  10. Until I saw your lovely LBD with short sleeves, I didn’t need or want another black dress. Now it’s a must have! And it’s very reasonable too…

  11. Can you describe the shoes and wrap in the ā€œdressyā€ photo. I like the way you have styled both looks.

  12. Love the dress and how you styled it two different ways. I also love your hair up…it makes you look REALLY young!!

    1. Thanks, Roxanne, I just cut it yesterday;) Perhaps I need to grow it out again.

  13. Love this dress and affordable price! A couple questions- Is the bottom of the dress a true wrap? Does it slit open? Also, the sleeves look drapery and a bit full (love it!). Do they bunch up under a cardigan or blazer?

    1. The sleeves are loose but not floppy so they did not bunch up under the cardigan. It is a faux wrap because it’s sewn at the waistband. The front has two pieces of silk that cover the entire front, if that makes sense.

  14. Love the posts where you show us how to style a garment more than one way! Now, tell us about the embellishment you added to that pretty cardigan, please

    1. Thanks Cyndi. The pin is a feather pin from Chico’s several years ago that I love to pop on grays and pink.
