Look of the Week: Linen and Silver

Are you a fan of linen? I think to really love linen you have to make peace with the fact that it will wrinkle. In fact, I think wrinkles are part of its charm. It used to drive me crazy but now I like the slightly rumpled elegance it lends. Plus in really hot weather, there’s nothing cooler than wearing linen.

I’m seriously loving these stretch linen pants from NYDJ. You first saw me wearing them on Dressing Room Diaries 2 weeks ago. I fell for their style and comfort on the spot.

I love the classic stripe, wide leg, and five pocket styling. It feels dressy for a casual pant.

These sandals came with a Ā 2 Ā 1/2″ heel and were comfortable but I had my cobbler shorten them by 1/2″ to make them even comfier. I have him do that to many of my shoes and it doesn’t throw the balance off. Just be sure you never remove more than 1/2″ and have a good cobbler do it.

I kept everything cool toned and pale for an almost monochromatic look. Silver and gray accessories coordinate well with the smoke colored tank and sweater. This is the 4-way convertible, linen blend sweater from Nic& Zoe. It’s the perfect amount of arm coverage.

How do you care for your linen? I find when I laundry it I just can’t not iron, of course the minute you wear it the wrinkles are back! Maybe if I still had a cloths line and could hang it out to dry the breeze would blow out the wrinkles and just give it a soft lived in look. It is a favorite for hot weather.

    1. I machine wash and dry, then iron my linen. Yes, the wrinkles come right back..but at least they’re crisp wrinkles! Linen sweaters get dried flat, then ironed too.

  2. You look so put together with that outfil! Your hair is just stunning, love the sunglasses adds a nice touch to the whole outfit. I want those shoes, I look at them often hoping they will offer a sale on them soon.

    1. Thanks, LuAnn. I love the look too! Hopefully they will go on sale while they still have your size:)

  3. Love the linen and silver combination. And the straw bag is so cute.

    1. I love it too, Debbie. It feels soft and cool for warm weather.

    1. Thanks Elaine! The sweater is awesome.

  4. And that darling purse???? Please share with this purse-a-holic. Thanks.

    1. Vintage Kate Spade purchased new, by me 30 years ago…sorry:)

  5. I just bought a pair of linen pants at Nordstrom. They’ve been the right weight for the hot weather I’m experiencing while travelling. The tie at the waistband keeps loosening up so I think I’ll put an elastic in when I get home. I may go back for another pair and possibly a dress.

    1. I’m a huge fan of elastic in waistbands!! Go for it.

I am coming to the US on holiday in July and in my case will be two linen dresses. I know I will look rumpled and maybe a bit disheveled but at least I will be as cool as fate will allow. I don’t think I will bring linen Pants as when travelling laundry can be difficult. I am hoping all the hotels we stay at have a self care laundry. Given that I am coming to my son’s wedding this really shouldn’t be troubling me ! Love the cardigan and the subtle colours of your Outfit!

    1. That sounds exciting, Linda! Best wishes on your son’s wedding.

  7. Such a pulled-together, classic casual look! I’m a huge fan of linen in all its forms, but especially linen jersey which is so great for travel.

    1. You’re so right. Linen jersey is the best!

  8. Just a word of warning about linen pants if you have “kissing” thighs. I had a pair of wide leg linen pants I wore in Europe several years ago and I developed a very uncomfortable rash from the linen and sweaty thighs rubbing together. I found a pair of pedipants (anyone know what those are anymore?) to wear, but they just bunched up after walking a few blocks. I was stuck wearing jeans in the hot humid weather.????

    1. That must have been uncomfortable, Susan! I have a strange suggestion to try for thighs rubbing together…stroke a little underarm deodorant stick on your inner thighs and they glide a little easier:)

  9. You look so good in this out fit. Your hair looks so much fuller, what did you do?

    1. Thanks, Norma. I started using Do Over finishing spray again. It adds tons of volume.

    Hi there!
I adore linen. Living in Gilbert, AZ it’s a must wear fabric. I especially like your pants. A nice alternative to the white/black pants look. The soft gray looks great on you.

    Best regards,
    Rajean

    1. Linen would be a must there! Thanks, Rajean.

  11. You look great and definitely ready for the summer weather. Thank you for the shoe heel suggestion. I did not know that could be done!
    Suz from Vancouver

    1. You are most welcome, Suz!

  12. I love NYDJ pants. They seem to fit me perfectly. I do need to size down one or even two sizes in their jeans, as they stretch out after wear.
I love those pants and when you showed them in your Dressing Room Diaries I knew you had to have them. I love the way you styled them. It’s a very soft look. I always think of greys for fall but you’ve proven that isn’t so. You look lovely in this outfit – relaxed but put together.

    1. You’re exactly right about the sizing, Joanna! I did go down one size in these. Thanks so much!

  13. Love linen. In east Texas it’s a necessity in my wardrobe.!

    1. It is the coolest fabric in hot, humid weather!

Jennifer, you look stunning in this outfit! Great tip on the shoes…I may have a pair or two that can be worn again if the heel is shorter. Your silver jewelry is a beautiful lighter look with the paler shades of summer. Heading to Nordy’s for those pants…thanks!

    1. It’s a brilliant way to resurrect shoes that are a touch too high! Good luck with the pants. Be sure you don’t buy too large a size…they have stretch and will “give” with wearing.

  15. I think these pants are awesome and love the way you styled them. I have also found myself “accepting” linen more in the last couple of years. It helps to have the higher quality linens. They are so good for warmer weather. Great look!

    1. They’re so comfy too, which always helps.

  16. Jennifer, what a great but comfortable look! I will check out the sweater, love the conversion. My granddaughters say that you can never have too many shades of NUDE lipstick. Love your new “do”! Sheila

    1. Thanks Sheila:) This is a super soft pink that appears nude and goes with everything!

      1. A good (great cobbler) is hard to come by! My husband happens to have the skills as a Certified Prosthetist & Orthotist in his professional life. Now , if I can just find him a bench, in retirement!

      2. Lucky you, Sheila! I bet he’ll be happy to do it for you:)
