Ebony and Ivory by LILYSILK

This time of year it’s anybody’s guess what our weather will be. Over the weekend our temperatures were in scorching 90’s and yesterday it clouded up for rain…very unusual for Northern California! It was warm out so I wore my hair up in the dreaded and fatally unstylish banana clip. You know what they say, ladies, “Ya gotta do what ya gotta do” and sometimes this is all I can do:)

We were heading to a small office party so I test drove my new shirt from LILYSILK. They make beautiful garments and home goods from the finest silk imaginable that is OEKO Certified chemical free.

I am wearing the 18mm Verticle Striped Silk Shirt in ivory.

LILYSILK sent me this beautiful blouse to try and I’m loving the fabric. The classic stripes make this blouse slimming and the gentle shirt tail hemline allows it to worn as a tunic or tucked in.

At first glance, this blouse looks black and white but it’s actually a soft ivory which I find much gentler on my complexion so long as it’s a neutral one and has no warm tones or yellow base.

The thin vertical stripe looks soft gray from a distance because it’s actually several fine stripes of black intertwined.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life modeling LILYSILK shirt

I rolled the sleeves up to be level with my waist which helps make my legs look longer. I am wearing a large but could have easily worn the medium.

It’s a very lightweight silk crepe de chine that feels cool on hot days. That’s the beauty of silk, it breathes. LILYSILK calls this a shirt but it feels more like a blouse to me because it’s so soft.

For this warm fall day, I wore it tucked into black jeans with some pearl earrings and necklace. Silk and pearls are a classic combo that never fails to feel lovely and elegant to me.

This is a beautiful blouse and I really like the fact it is ivory over white. Nice outfit.

When I looked at your picture I first thought you got your hair cut- you would look great with shorter hair! After losing all my hair during chemo, L am thrilled to have short hair again, much of life really is relative.

Bless you, Anita! ALL of what we find important in life is relative. So glad you are well XX

I have a question about jeans. Middle age has settled around my waist and I am frustrated with finding a pair that fits my waist and everywhere else. Any brands you suggest I can try? I am 5’3″ weigh 150 lbs. and am 63. Thanks!

Look for jeans labeled “straight fit”. Buy them to fit your hips and the waistband should be looser on you. Curvy fits have a narrower waistband which gets tight! I am seriously loving the ones from Artful Home that I shared here. I just ordered them in black too!

Jennifer, for what it’s worth–in a paris I saw a LOT of women with their hair casually arranged with those banana clips! Go for it!

Well, if the French women are styling them, I am in good company Susan. Thanks for the encouragement!

Loving the platform sandal. Would you share their source?

Love your hair up! Some things, like banana clips, may be called “unstylish” when in reality they still work to pull a look together.

    • September 12, 2017 / 10:36 am

Thank you Dee! They are so useful in hot weather and keep my hair feeling neat.

As “unstylish” as banana clips are, sometimes they are just the accessory that is needed. I have hair very similar to yours and haven’t been able to find a clip that stays in place. I’d love to know what you use, and how you use it.

This one is a drug store original but I did fuss a bit to make it stay in. I sprayed with dry shampoo for extra volume then back combed a tiny bit up top and rolled as a chignon before clipping. I’ll try to get some pictures next time to share.

Happy Tuesday Jennifer! This blouse looks great on you. It’s one of those versatile pieces I love that works with jeans, skirts and everything in between. Great styling tip about rolling up the sleeves to help make your legs look longer. It’s almost as much ‘how’ you wear it as it is ‘what’ you wear. Thanks for the post!

Thanks Deborah! I do love a classic silk blouse and this one is lovely.

I think you look elegant with your hair back like that. Very flattering! And the silk blouse is lovely. Like you, I love the combination with pearls- it just says feminine class.

    • September 12, 2017 / 3:26 pm

Thank you Debbie! I feel the same way about pearls and silk:)

I loved this post – so glad that I retrieved it from my “junk”email folder – LOL! Thanks for all the tips. I just ordered the blouse and am very excited to try it. Love the hair tip also – my hair is the same.

I hate being in the junk folder:) I need to check mine more often because I’m sure I miss many things that way. Thanks for reading Susan

LilySilk is truly a beautiful silk. I love my silk pillowcase, and do find my hair stays in it’s style better on silk than on cotton. I wash my hair every third day now, because it holds the style much longer…sleeping on silk pillowcases! Thanks Jennifer for introducing me to this quality brand.

    • September 12, 2017 / 8:14 pm

My pleasure Cheryl Ann. Now I need to get silk pillowcases!!

You look great. I’m in layers this fall as I go from down vest to tank top over the course of the day. I don’t seem to have any internal temperature regulation anymore! I’m always looking for smart pieces. xo

    • September 12, 2017 / 8:16 pm

My internal thermostat is shot too Jen! I’m not sure if it’s my Thyroid or my age but I’ll be delighted when cooler temperatures get here.
