Dressing Room Diaries: Fuzzy and Warm Faux Fur

This week’s Dressing Room Diaries is taking a different direction. Rather than shopping at one store, I visited several on a hunt for some great Faux Fur. The jacket I thought I would love the most was the least flattering…on me. As I look at these pictures, I’m tempted to fall for it all over again but I knowĀ it isn’t right for me and I’ll tell you why.

This Jewel Faux Fur Jacket is a similar shape to the pinkĀ one above. It has no closure, jewel neckline, and inseam pockets with a clean-lined shape in a rich wine color. I’d been so smitten by the pink, this seemsĀ too dark on my complexion but would be stunning on a brunette. This Burgundy Faux Fur Jacket has the same shapeĀ with longer fur whichĀ gives it a very different look.

This Leopard Print CoatĀ is a classic 3/4 length with side pockets and traditional lapels. This coat has a slimming shape with a button front. It looks more modern thanĀ vintage inspired.

This Stella Faux Fur Vest is a gorgeous, rich Navy. It has a checkboard pattern in the fur which also makes it lightweight. I love it’s wide lapels and angled front hemline.

I tried this jacket on last because I was certain it would be my favorite. It ended upĀ being the least flattering. This La Vie Rebecca Taylor Faux Fur JacketĀ has a cool beige tone that is perfect for my coloring. I adored everything about it…except how it looked on my body. The patch pockets added volume to my tummy and it was too short for me…which is saying something because this was not a petite!

Please know, whatĀ you love on the hanger may not flatter your body. Try things on with a critical eye and be selective. Don’t settle for OK because awesome is hanging on a rack close by.

You are SO brave to make pictures in a dressing room! The only pictures of me that might be snapped would be by the coroner!! Dressing rooms are not my friends. I get too overheated and exhausted in a dressing room to ever dare to post a picture of the experience.

    1. LOL…Sue.. there are always tons of photo’s I don’t share where I resemble quasi-moto:) Bad lighting, unflattering clothes and overheating are all part of the territory. I do it for you because I love my readers:)

  2. That pink jacket just makes you sparkle! I checked it out on the store website and it looks way better on you than the model!

  3. I don’t have any faux fur in my wardrobe, but after reading this post, I think I should add it to my wish list! I’m glad you bought the pink. It truly makes you glow!

    1. Thanks Elaine. Faux fur is very warm which you would appreciate during your long winters.

  4. Great post Jennifer. I’m so glad you went with the pink. It was a real winner. Ditto on the hat! Go back and get it before someone else grabs it.

    1. Thanks Leslie. I do need that hat! I donā€™t realize how much I liked it until I looked at the photos.

Glad you got the pink, it’s a winner! Being a full figured lady, I’m not sure I can do a whole coat. I plan to do accessories such as a scarf or collar of faux fur.

    1. Thereā€™s a lot of faux fur around this year Kathleen, so this is When you should find something special. Make sure you choose something that makes you feel fabulous, because you deserve it.

  6. My favourite is the first in that gorgeous shade of pink. Itā€™s such a flattering colour on you.
I havenā€™t gone there, yet. I always feel a little too fou-fou in them. Maybe, itā€™s because of living in a small town. I just donā€™t know. But, never say never. ????

    1. I ordered the pink after I saw the pictures of me in all of the coats. It is kind of froufrou, which is not typically me, but it made me happy. Thatā€™s enough, and with the discount, it was worth every penny.

      1. If something makes you happy, then you should wear it. I would!

  7. Thank you so much for this post! I just ordered the pale pink jacket. I am the awkward size between misses and plus, so it was nice to find this in an XXL, and the price was right with the discount. I know the pile won’t have a slimming effect, but I want to look nice and wear something pretty that feels nice. I also have the personality to carry it off lol-my everyday coat is a bright red squall parka from Lands End. I live in cold upstate NY so I spend a lot of time in jackets/coats.

    1. Iā€™m so happy you got it Trish!! We are the size we are…and need to dress up to please ourselves. We deserve it! Slimming isnā€™t everything, dressing with joy and confidence is.

  8. The pink faux is TDF…SO glad you selected the one I chose as my fav…I have a leopard 3/4 coat that I wear with a black column and I love it…
I ONLY wear faux…Just read about a well-known brand using coyote fur with no regard to animal cruelty issues…My faux jacket is perfect and no one has to suffer for me to wear…Well, maybe me if I stand too close to an open flame…smile..
Love and a snuggle to Lucy…Deede

    1. I love the pink too. I caved and bought it????They are very warm. I canā€™t believe folks donā€™t care about animal cruelty! It breaks my heart. Faux for me and perhaps my Momā€™s vintage Fox. I adore you Deede! Xx

  9. Stella Faux is my fav here in the Navy! Great post today. Very helpful!

    1. If I didnā€™t already own a navy faux fur wrap, that would have gone home with me:)

    1. Thank you Pam! Iā€™m going to take you hat shopping very soon;)

  10. I have two faux furs I’ll be wearing a lot this year; one is a faux mink, satin-lined, 3/4 sleeve “sweatshirt” my husband bought me for my birthday last January. Very casual, and looks great with a turtleneck and skinny faux suede slacks or jeans. The second is a YUMMY faux chamois jacket lined with the softest, cuddliest “fur” ever – I bought it on sale late last spring from Chico’s; it was marked down from $169.99 to $39.99, and as a Passport member, I saved another 5% off the sale price. My style is casual, even for work, but I love dressing up when I have the chance. Both these pieces can work either way!

    1. I am drooling over your faux furs Candy!! They sound amazing. These pieces become so special when we find unique colors and or shapes. Bravo!!

  11. The ivory hat looks awesome on you! Hope it went home in your shopping bag. Happy weekend!

    1. Thanks Roxanne! It didnā€™t and as I look at the photos I wonder why not!

  12. Maureen H. says:

I thought you looked stunning with the last one you wore, especially with the hat! I didn’t notice any bulk around the stomach.
I am wondering for myself though, as a somewhat plus size girl, if I should stay away from these faux furs. I do love them!

    1. I donā€™t think you need to stay away from faux fur. I would look for ones with slim shapes rather than bomber style and shorter pile (fur). Coats with channel stitching (like the vest) are slimmer versions too!

  13. That pink one! Oh my goodness. I hope you bought it! It looks fabulous on you!

  14. Did you purchase any of the jackets Jennife? I haven’t tried any of the faux furs myself.

    1. I bought the pink. The funny thing is I didnā€™t get it at the time, I ordered it as I wrote this post when the photos reminded me that, yes, it was my favorite!
