Welcome to the Weekend: Escape to the Coast

This week has been long and stressful so Iā€™m thrilled the weekend is here. Although itĀ poured rain this week, we decided to pack up our trailer and head to the coast. Thatā€™s the beauty of this little RV…we can pack it in a jiffy and hit the road. Sometimes short journeys feel like long distances when they take us away from our daily routine.

We saw the surgeon yesterday morning who changed Lucyā€™s bandage and gave me some good news. Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life with her dog at UC DavisThe swelling in her paw has gone down enough that it now resembles a real paw! For over two weeks itā€™s been unrecognizable. She believes Lucy will be able to walk on her paw again, without pain. Lucy may limp, but that might only be because it feels awkward to her.Ā I believe our prayers have been answered already in that sheā€™s improving and her pain is greatly diminished. My heart tells me all of your prayers played a large part in her recovery and I am humbled by your kindness. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

She wears this little boot when the ground is wet. She’s getting used to it but isn’t happy with it.

Weā€™re spending the weekend at the coast less than 2 hours from home which might as well be halfway around the world.

The air is filled with the scentĀ of salt water and Eucalyptus trees. It’s magical to stand on the bluff, listening to the crashing waves and watch the sunset.

The temperatureĀ is cooler by the water so I packed several pairs of boots and brought my new fedora. I love hats and this one has tons of attitude! It feels very “Casablanca like” and is a classic shape I will wear year after year.

Being by the coast is a balm toĀ my spirit. I didn’t realize how badly I needed this escape until we got here.

Thanks for reading and being the kind, supportive women you are!

Have a fabulous weekend!!

  4. Yay!! So glad Lucy is on the mend and her prognosis is good. It’s so stressful when our animal companions are not feeling well.

    1. Itā€™s very stressful and sad. Iā€™m so relieved and we continue to pray. She feeling so much better Iā€™m very relieved.

  5. That is great news! What a relief for you. Lucy will be much happier now that she doesnā€™t have to wear that cone and/or be restrained to a small area. Go Lucy!
I find the ocean is cathartic. The sound if the waves so relaxing. I donā€™t know if I would be happy living anywhere far from the ocean.
Enjoy your weekend and come back refreshed.

    1. She will likely need to wear a donut collar when the bandages come off on Wed. Sheā€™s come so far. I love the water

  6. Love your hat! I must have it! You look so sassy and gorgeous! ????

    1. Itā€™s on sale and a great value. Iā€™m wearing a S/M and it also comes in L/XL

Great news re Lucy. You will feel like you have been away for months.

    Raining here in Vancouver, BC

I am working working this weekend – at a theatre. But fun – as I get to see the musical Jersey Boys. Everyone leaves the theatre in great spirits.

    1. How fun! Iā€™m always wanted to see the Jersey Boys. Inside is a great place to be in the rain.

  9. Glad to hear the good news about little Lucy. You sure do look chic in that wrap and fedora. My husband and I also enjoy occasional getaways in our RV, and we often RV with friends; we call it Group Therapy. Great fun! However, if I emerged from my camper sporting that look, they would laugh at me; last time I was gently chided for wearing makeup – lol! It’s just that we’re very casual within our group; however, if we decide to go into town and do something, we’ll glam it up a bit. I may have to find that wrap!

    1. Lol! As long as youā€™re enjoying yourself thatā€™s all that matters!

  10. Happy to hear your fur baby is well on her way to living pain free. The picture of the 2 of you is great. Enjoy your weekend.

  11. Such good news about Lucy! It sounds like you are having a fabulous time at the coast. Enjoy!

  12. I just saw Lucy’s velvet collar on Instagram…Three cheers for the pillowy effect…It made my day to see her without that tortuous collar…From afar, I have worried about her and having to wear the dreaded collar…
I am so happy to see your girl improving…She is just destined to get better…
Love the Casablanca look…Have fun traveling…
Isn’t life wonderful…where we were so worried has evaporated into smiles…THANKFUL, Deede

    1. It feels like a miracle Deede! Thanks so much for your kind prayers. Theyā€™ve been answered. Have a great weekend!

  13. I am so happy that your Lucy is feeling much better. She looks wonderful! I love your fedora and oh my gosh! That fur look wrap! Be still my heart. As always you look wonderful. I canā€™t tell where on the coast you are staying. My husband and I used to drive to the coast from Sonoma ( we lived in Windsor) Point Reyes was a favorite and used to go to Mendocino often. We loved Agate Cove B&B. You make me homesick for my home , the West Coast. I can smell the air from your writing ~ thank you. You look fabulous!

    1. This coast is stunning. It reminds we how fortunate we are to live in easy access to these places. Mendocino is a favorite of ours too. We havenā€™t camped at Pt Reyes but itā€™s on our list. Have a great weekend!

  14. Lori McClintick says:

Would you share the beautiful area pictured in this post.
I enjoy your Blog. Thank you for sharing with us.

    1. This is just south of Santa Cruz so a several day drive from Oregon. A gorgeous drive too. We love the coast so much.

  21. What wonderful, exciting news about Lucy! A legion of animal lovers have been praying for her. My very favorite hymn since childhood is ā€œAll things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small…the Lord God made them allā€. Jennifer, hope you all have a peaceful, relaxing weekend.

    1. Hearing it was a gift! Thank you so much Roxanne! Have a great weekend.

  24. Ann Griffin says:

Where are you staying? It looks kind of like half moon bay.

      1. Ann Griffin says:

We love Seacliff! Be sure to eat at Manuels, a great Mexican restaurant in Aptos just outside the gate to the park. You can walk there. We just traded our travel trailer in and bought a Class A Winnebago Vista. It is 29 feet. We are going to Yuma after Thansgiving for a 2 day RV driving course. So glad your dog is better. And jealous you are st Seacliff. That is a hard reservation to get!

      2. Great tip! Thanks we will try them for lunch. 29 feet sounds about perfect! You can still get into state parks and have the convenience of a Class A. Weā€™ll check that out too.

  25. Cathy Blackwell says:

Hi – so happy to hear your little puppy will get better. Our animals are our hearts.
Could you correct the link for the boots?
    Thanks!

  26. You are tooooo cute, very chic. Do you ever show your camper, we have had a simple pop up, when the kids were young and so were we. Then we put a trailer type camper on lake property. Now I want a small one so we can just pick up and go. I have seen pics of the van/Mercedes but …

    1. Lol. I have shown a few pics. Itā€™s very modest and we bought the ultralight so could pull it with our 1999 Lexus SUV. When the SUV dies weā€™ll likely swap up to a Class A or buy a truck and get a 5th wheel.

  27. I somehow missed what happened but I thought you bought a motor home at some time ?
We started out with a smaller Class B and did a 4 week adventure through a lot of the National parks making a loop through Arizona, California , Oregon, Washington, and finished up at Yellowstone, and Custer National Park. Now we have a larger Class A. We haven’t been able to travel in it since purchase because of husbands back issues, but my twin grands and I spent the night in it last night in the driveway.

    1. We did put a deposit on a gorgeous class A last January. Sadly, we arrived at home a week later to unload the trailer and found our home damaged from wind and rain. We had to back out of the deal because our insurance didnā€™t cover enough of exoenses and it was extensive. What kind did you get? Iā€™m still hopeful we can move up one day.
