Pearls and Pins

Several of you asked for other ways I wear pearls so I thought I’d share yesterday’s rendition. I was taking Lucy for her follow-up appointment to see the dermatologist at UC Davis. I wore black with aĀ pretty sky blue and Lucy wore a ghastly haircut.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Axis Striped top from Artful Home

I’d taken her for a bath and haircut last week with the express directions to not cut her hair like a Westie. She’s a Norwich Terrier who is supposed to have much longer hair. Sadly, we picked up a very plump looking Westie. Note to self…cut back on Lucy’s fresh chicken rations.Ā Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life combining pearls

I wore two strands of pearls, one real and one faux. They weren’t long enough to twist without choking me but needed something extra so I attached a Sarah Cavender pin to the faux strand. It needs to be restrung and has space between the beads which accommodated the pin.

I wore myĀ new Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Talbots duster

I also wore black pants and duster sweater…which mayĀ haveĀ beenĀ was a mistake. There’s a special message Lucy hears when I take her to the vet which tells her to shed like a manic. By the time we climbed back into the car, IĀ had more dogĀ hair on me than she did.

She’s improved remarkably and we’re now starting a cream to shrink her papilloma wart even further. Hopefully, it will also grow her hair back quickly:)

I really like your clever idea of attaching the pin/brooch to your necklace and it highlights the blue in your top.
I see Lucy appreciates pearls too!

  2. Lucy looks like she is feeling food, I am happy to see that. We took our little black Pomeranian, Fuzzy, to the groomer a while back. The groomer not only trimmed off the little fur wings that he has that grow over his toes that we think are cute, but she got scary close with that shaver around his back side and shaved a big, wide swath where we are used to him being covered almost completely by his big puffy fur Pomeranian pantaloons. He was extremely overexposed. The contrast of his black fur, and so much bright pink shaved area was eye catching, and not in a good way. If Fuzzy could have seen it, I think even he might have even blushed. When my husband saw it, he asked me if there wasn’t something we could do, because that just didn’t look right on Fuzzy. I tried to cover Fuzzy back up by brushing his hair over the area a bit, but it wouldn’t stay. Finally, the area is starting to be covered up by new growth. Just like when we humans get a bad haircut it takes twice as long to grow out again, while a great haircut always grows out super quickly.

    1. I feel your and Fuzzy’s pain! Lucy has body parts exposed that have always been covered. It just looks indecent! What are these groomers thinking? Are they too up close and personal to realize modesty is important for dogs too? You’re exactly right…regrowth takes twice as long when it’s a bad haircut:)

I am from the south, we all wear pearls. Wouldn’t be caught without them. I wear some sort of pearls or my birthstone which is sapphire all the time when I go out.

    1. I didn’t know that about southern ladies! They are elegant and I love wearing.

  4. Iā€™m pleased to get an update to on Lucy. And, so happy sheā€™s doing well.
I once brought my Border Collie home from the groomers with her pants cut off. She seemed quite embarrassed and kept sitting down. I donā€™t know if it was modesty or a cold butt. I now groom her myself. Lucy is cute however her hair is cut.
Iā€™m loving your top. The soft blue with the black is a wonderful combo.

    1. That’s sort of how Lucy looks! She’s supposed to have a furry body and legs so feel cold. I did try a sweater on her but she nearly dislocated her shoulder trying to get out of it, so I gave up. I love that color combo too…fresh and serious at the same time:)

  5. Lets be honest. We are jealous of Lucy. Very few of us look good with short or long hair. She looks Fab in both. Lucky girl!

    1. Lol…that’s so funny. I’m lucky to have her sweetness in my life:)

  6. Glad to hear Lucy’s doing better! She looks cute even with the Westie haircut. Nice pearls, too.

  7. Hi. I have never been given pearls nor bought a strand for myself. I love them. Can you suggest your favorite faux pearls that I could start collecting?

    1. Macyā€™s has incredible sales on faux pearls. Keep a lookout online. Mine are by Majorica, but there are many brands that look amazing. Look for luster and a color you like. Nadri makes pretty ones too, as well as Givency and Kate Spade.

      1. Thanks so much. I will keep my eye out for these brands! Wishing you md yours a beautiful and peace filled holiday.

      2. I’ll keep my eye out for pretty pieces to share with you, Lee! Happy Holidays.

  8. Was so hoping for a Lucy update before Christmas! Wonderful news!!! Your comment made me think about that saying ā€œEweā€™s not fat, eweā€™s fluffy!ā€ I was at the vet with one of my kitties yesterday, concerned Gracie was too thin. My vet said uh, she is normal weight; youā€™re just used to your other FAT cat! I too came home wearing a full length fur coat!
About 20 years ago Franklin Mint came out with a limited edition re-creation of Jackie Kennedyā€™s iconic triple strand pearls. My mother gave my sister and I each a set for CHristmas. Those are my favorites for looks and sentimental reasons.

    1. Thatā€™s hilarious Roxanne! Itā€™s all perspective about size isnā€™t it? I remember when those pearls came out and wish Iā€™d gotten a set. How Perfectly classic! Iā€™m
Glad your Gracie is ok. Love her name!

  9. A very refreshing way to wear pearls. I like the faux and real combo….why not!?
I hope this is the first in a how-to-wear-that-pearls series.

    1. Thanks Erika! I think Iā€™m going to begin sharing more day to day looks also. Hey, Iā€™m getting dressed anyway;)

  10. Oh the indignity of a bad haircut! I feel Lucy’s (well, your) pain. Cute top!

    1. Okay, okay…itā€™s probably worse for me but Iā€™m sure sheā€™s cold! Have a great day Ann

  11. Groomers seem to have trouble with hair styles. Our portie came back with ears and tail almost shaved and now looks like a sad looking mule. lol. Love the black pearl necklace. And what a fun way to change up its look! Xx

    1. They do donā€™t they. Sometimes spots get shaved that should never see the light of day:-O. Your little guy is the very cutest! xo

  12. I love all of Lucy’s looks…My little Maltese would sometimes get a Scottie cut and it embarrassed him…I don’t get why groomers can’t just groom without designing…..SOOOO glad she is getting better….Any cut is a good cut this Christmas…MERRY CHRISTMAS to you, Mr. WSL and precious Lucy…

    1. Thank you so much my friend. Her recovery is the best gift I could hope for. I am convinced sheā€™s embarrassed by this scalp job. Itā€™s not the first time either. Merriest Christmas to you and yours! Xo
