Can This Outfit Be Saved?

I braved the mall last week and lived to tell the story. Actually, it wasn’t that bad. I made a few quick returns and then hit Walgreens, Cost-co, Home Depot, the post office…you know, one of those glamorous days. I dressed simply and casually without being in sneakers and sweats but something was off.ballet flats and jeansI wore comfy pull-on jeans, a V-neck pullover, and flat shoes. Since I was in a hurry, I’d just tossed stuff on. As I put on my tiny earrings I took a good look at my outfit. It looked plain and boring.

I couldn’t  take the time to change so I applied some red lipstick and put on a necklace. Not just any necklace, but the one I’d been saving to wear for parties and dinners out. The medallion hanging from this pearl necklace has a Crystal Swarovski Canal bezel that sparkles like diamonds.

I know better and am glad of this gentle reminder. Life is too short to save the good stuff for later. We need to wear what we love, now.

Was this outfit saved? Maybe. It was salvaged from boring 🙂

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Thank you for this post because as I sit here having a pedicure and then running a few errands I’m wearing my French Kandi necklace minus the medallion. I just thought it would be too much but. You convinced me otherwise! Thank you!!!

This taught me it is never too much if it makes us feel more confident and happy with our appearance. Enjoy Barbara!

The blue looks great and not blah at all.

I don’t think you look boring, at all. That leopard swing coat will elevate any outfit. I’m loving the tones in it.
I’m afraid I’m one of those that keep my more expensive clothes for dress not everyday running around. I grew up that way. After church, we always changed into play clothes. Old habits die hard.

    • November 29, 2017 / 9:30 am

It really is hard to change those habits…I’m trying to remember but the finest china is still in the cupboard most of the time:)

I hate boring! My mother says that she does not want be “over-dressed” but dull is dull. I am excited about getting dressed each day. A little lipstick, a scarf or some jewelry just “lift the look”. What are we saving it for? My daughter loves some of my pieces of jewelry and would definitely “take a pass” on others. My mother’s jewelry is way too “teensy” for my taste. Use it, wear it as you wish. It’s a matter of individual taste.

A lot of my inherited jewelry is teeny too. Sadly it’s not really conducive to layering either so I tend to pass on it. I need to see how I can wear it more often.

Absolutely – wear what we love and makes us feel good! My husband tells me that I dress up too much just to run errands, but like you it makes me feel good so I will continue to do so.

    • November 29, 2017 / 11:00 am

I don’t think we can dress up too much Yvonne. If it makes us happy, go for it! Yay you

    Great point…why save it? 🙂

I had those same earrings and sold them this year because I wasn’t wearing them. I’ve decided with short hair I need bolder earrings and they were just sitting in my jewelry box tarnishing. Someone is loving them now which they deserve. ha!

    • November 29, 2017 / 9:59 am

I am preferring bolder these days too but find if my necklace is bold, I frequently like it with a smaller earring. I agree Laurel, with short hair, bold earrings are the way to go!

WOW, your absolutely right. I have some beautiful pieces that my Mother left me just seating in the safe.
We went to Dallas for Thanksgiving and it was going to be a “casual” weekend. However, I thought to myself, get that gold necklace out, wear your opal ring. It felt so great and I must say, I felt very comfortable when I looked into the mirror. Why keep these things that have such fond memories hidden.
    Thank you for your blog!

I think you look put together for errands but you additions made it special for you. More and more I’m discovering making things special for me is important. I’m trying to not save clothes for this or that occasion but wear them for everyday.

    • November 29, 2017 / 6:56 pm

Thanks Cathy! I’m doing the same thing. Good for you. We deserve to treat ourselves to the fun of wearing things that make us happy.

coat was way too over powering.. you are lost in this coat

    • November 29, 2017 / 7:01 pm

It is a swing coat so large when hanging open.

Before I retired I had stylish work clothes and a scruffy jeans centered casual wardrobe. It’s been a difficult transition to do a dressy casual look for shopping and errands. I felt overdressed. But as you’ve pointed out Jennifer, I get better service, receive compliments and have an extra dose of confidence when I step up my game. Thanks or pointing that out -again – with today’s post. What are we waiting for?

    • November 29, 2017 / 7:03 pm

That is a tough transition. I do know I prefer to be over dressed than under dressed any day of the week! I’m trying hard to not save for later.

I love the blue coat! I honestly do not like the French Kande jewelry at all. Not my style.

    • December 1, 2017 / 12:19 am

It is a very distinctive style and not for everyone.

  16. November 30, 2017 / 8:49 am

Your outfit looks so comfortable and cozy. I did not think you looked boring with that swing coat. But loved the addition of the necklace and lipstick. I do like wearing red lipstick for photos. I find that otherwise, I disappear. Another excuse to buy another lipstick.

    • December 1, 2017 / 12:19 am

I like the way you think Sandy:) Red lipstick is becoming an addiction!
