Dressing Room Diaries: Bridging the Gap

I was delightfully surprised by the current collection I tried on at the Gap this week. I was wandering past and a few things caught my eye so I decided to try things on. I haven’t been a regular shopper there for many years because things had started looking too casual for me. Yes, I wear jeans frequently but I prefer a bit of elegance to my looks, which I wasn’t seeing there.

Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Gap Fall 2017I started with this V-neck raglan sleeve sweater. It comes in several colors but I gravitated to the silver, thinking “holiday casual”. It’s got metallic threads woven into heather gray for a subtle sparkle. I loved it with these Zip Ponte Leggings. These are a heavy cotton and modal blend with lots of spandex for a supportive fit.

Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Gap coatI topped it with this Classic Wool Coat that’s supposed to skim the knee. Oop’s, I’m swimming in this but they do carry it in petite and tall online.

Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Gap wool coatI love the lapels and simple lines. The color is soft and pretty which would coordinate with everything.

Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Gap velvetYou can’t see it in my photo but this is a Velvet Kimono Top. Very cute on and infinitely wearable with jeans or dressed up. They didn’t have this Velvet Swing Jacket in store so I ordered it from home. I loved the red so ordered both black and red to see which one looks best.

My smile says it all about this Leopard Coat. This was way too big for me but I loved it just the same.

Jennifer Connolly of A well Styled Life wearing Leopard coat from the GapSee how much sleeve is bunched up when I put my hand in the pocket? It’s a shame because I probably would have brought it home to play with my new red handbag:)

These are the Bi-stretch Skinny Ankle Pant in midnight polka dot. They’re a comfy basic in a fun pattern and fit very well.

Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing GapI topped it with the original V-neck sweater in Snow Cap. This sweater is a great basic that I can see owning in several colors.

I’m glad I went back into the Gap because I’ll now keep them on my radar for more than very casual looks.

At one point the styles at the GAP were right for me but the fabrics became very thin and clingy so I stopped even looking there. I’ll have to try them again!

I used to shop there all the time. Hopefully things are changing back for us.

Hopefully they’re changing things up. It sure looked that way.

I too rediscovered the Gap! I told the sales clerk I was pleased and surprised they had so much items for a gal over 50! She told me they are making an effort to get back to their core customers! I will be back to Gap more often.

I’m thrilled to hear that Jill! Their prices are very competitive too.

I was wondering about the coat you said was too big, “this Classic Wool Coat” . From the picture, the belt loops seem to be at the correct level. I am 5’1″ ( busty) and sometimes when I get a petite top/coat, the sleeves and the length are good but the waist is too high. Do you find that? What do you do, remove the belt loops or bring to a tailor to adjust?
And as always, thanks for another dressing room post!

Yes Suz, I do find that. I’d have the loops moved. I like having them so I don’t loose my belt. Plus I like to tie in the back to slim the cost when it’s not too cold out.

I enjoyed your photos and comments on Gap. The Gap stores in my area closed several years ago but I am glad to see they are offering some nice items. I especially liked the gray coat.

It is a very pretty coat. I’ve rwad that Hap will be closing more locations which is too bad.

Yay Marybeth! I ordered the Coat in XS so have my fingers crossed that it fits! At that price, I could not resist.

Love that leopard print on you my friend! I think I have been to the gap twice for myself . I bought one of my very favorite sweaters there. I wore it until it was threadbare and have never found a replacement for it. All of the other visits have been to pick up gifts for our grandchildren ( ages 7-18) The polka dot leggings are wonderful! I’ll check them out to see if they might have a tall. Hugs!

Thank you Katherine! I do love leopard for the sass it adds to my look. It’s just so fun.
