Bix Supper Club on the Barbary Coast

Bix Supper Club on the Barbary Coast

Good morning ladies and happy Friday! I haven’t forgotten about Dressing Room Diaries and I’ll be back with it tomorrow. I’ve been spending time in San Francisco with my daughter this week and she always takes priority. That’s not to say we haven’t been shopping because we have…more on that in another post.

On Wednesday, I packed lots of Artful Home and French Kande (because I always feel stylish in them) and headed into town via Bart. My sister in law also joined us so the 3 Connoly Women had a blast on the town. We met for dinner at Bix, a Jazz Supper Club. It’s located at 56 Gold Street, in a charming alley off Montgomery in San Francisco’s historic Barbary Coast.alley outside Bix Supper club on A Well Styled Life

The food is phenomenal and the decor is stunning. It looks like an Art Deco supper club right out of the 1930’s, complete with piano player and singer. This is the mural behind the bar. My pictures are all very grainy because I didn’t want to be “one of those people” who uses a flash inside.Bix Supper Club on A Well Styled life

I ate 4 times more than I should have and then we ordered dessert 🙂 It was a warm evening so after dinner, we walked over to North Beach. The Connolly women in North Beach

I’ve driven past Vesuvios many times but never went in. It’s a world-renowned saloon first established in 1948. Jennifer Connolly and her daughter in Vesuvios, SFWe had several glasses of Prosecco and played rousing card games late into the night. The people watching was superb and it was a hoot from beginning to end.rousing card ganme at vesuvios in SF on A Well Styled Life

I haven’t stayed out this late for many years which reminds me what a suburban bumpkin I’ve become.

Have a great day and thank for reading ladies!

We had dinner at Bix about 25 years when we were in SF for a wedding. Thanks for the photo reminder of what i remarkable place it was — from location in the alley to the food!

Ah, thanks for bringing back a happy memory. We loved Bix when we worked in the city and stopped with clients off and on. Is “The Butler’s in Love” painting still there?

I haven’t thought of Vesuvio’s in ages! When I lived in Saratoga, CA, (’73-’74ish) my girlfriend and I used to drive up to San Francisco frequently and spend time there. Another friend, my first husband had known since junior high, lived upstairs and worked at City Lights Bookstore, next door. He was friends with the Beat Generation writers and musicians who hung out at both places. We got an insider’s look at the dope smoking, hippies and artistic types like Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Francis Ford Coppola who spent the afternoons debating politics and critiquing one another’s writing. Interesting times…
