Playing With Fashion Over 50
Last week we talked about the crisp white shirt. I am a huge fan and have a sizable collection. Mine range from classic to unique and everything in-between. In fact, I haven’t met a white shirt I didn’t love. They can be a blank canvas you add things to or they can be the star of the show. Last weekend I wore the sameĀ white shirt 2 days in a row. Once as the star and once in a supporting role.
We met friends for dinner Saturday night at a local restaurant. It wasn’t a dressy place but I always like to kick things up a notch when we go out. I wore my favorite black jeans andĀ this Artist Smock from Artful Home. This shirt is available in 3 colors but the white struck me as the most dramatic.
Its tunicĀ length will be great over leggings because it covers all the importantĀ bits:).
It’s got hip pockets which I always seem to have one hand in…I love pockets! Itās made from a super crisp fabric so when you pop the collar up, it stays there! The double cuffs are such a great touch and a personal favorite.
I wore simple silver hoops and put my hair up to accentuate the collar. I really like my hairĀ up so have to come up with something better than a banana clip:)
I added
Yes, this is campy and fun. It brings back fond memories of when I worked in fashion and wore my clothes more as the costume for my life.
I wonder why I stopped doing that? Life is too short not to have fun with your clothes.
Then Sunday I wore it open over
I rolled the cuffs up further so my bracelets could show. The exaggerated shirttail hemline adds great movement to this shirt and made me wonder if it might tie up like my other white shirts. And it does! I tied a big honkingĀ bow up front and love that it continued to cover my backside. I could have tied a low profile knot but hey, why not play with proportions?
This shirt is a new favorite. It’s an investment for sure and it’ll be stylish forever.
Do you wear white shirts?
Thanks for reading andĀ have a great day!
Thank you to Artful Home for providing me this shirt! I was compensated but as always, all opinions are my own.
A big thanksĀ to you,Ā my readers, for supporting the brands that allow me to continue this blog and bring you new things.
Love all your looks and if that shirt was in an ivory colour it would be perfect for me.Such a versatile shirt!
Also you look younger with your hair up.
Say what? I will have to wear it up more often. Of course, my banana clip may have been too tight and giving my scalp a pull:))
Hahaha!
I really like your hair pulled up as well. I thought It was a French twist and I figured if you can do it, so can I! Then I read ābanana clipā! Hey, I can do that too! LOL
Gotta love a banana clip:))
Yes we need to have fun with our clothes and accessories…I recently bought a Tee that has some stars on it and I quite like it! Not as conservative as my plain tops.
The white shirt looks like a real winner…
I love stars too and I see more and more available!!
me again…I think it is a French look, soignee is the word I was looking for.
Ah, perfect word. I love that!! Thanks
you really caught something perfect for you with that first look including the pussycat bow. I am not sure what it is but it has a completely different aura than your typical looks. is it the hair up/ is it the colours? is it the lipstick or is it all of it? a more dramatic look for sure.
Thank you Sue! I know I loved the look. It felt artistic and dramatic.
Use corksctew hair pins to keep hair up. You can find then in any drugstore. I got a pair at Walgrreens. Twst the hair and just screw the pins in. One on top, one on bottom. Add decorative bobby pins if you need a bit more help. Then hair spray š
I have never heard of corkscrew hairpins. Off to get some tomorrow. Thanks, Judy!!
Great minds think alike. I got this same shirt because I like it so much. It’s interesting to see the way you style it. I probably would wear it very simply. With jeans, tights, stuff like that. Love it. Love white shirts. They always look great. Just ask Carolina Herrera.
Love Carolina Herrera. Talk about a class act!
You look beautiful in your white shirt! And, your hair up looks so pretty!
Thanks Joanne. Iām going to try more ways to put it up.
Love the shirt and shoes. What brand are the shoes?
The shoes are by Vince Camuto. Very comfy because I had my cobbler shorten the heel by 1/2 – 3/4 inchās.
I love that shirt! I have several white shirts, as well. I never thought to wear one open over a tee. It takes a dressy shirt to casual in an instant. Wearing your shirt two ways gives us ideas on how to stretch our wardrobes. Would you do this more often?
Your hair does look cute up. Iād love to wear mine up but it doesnāt stretch.????
Wouldnāt it be great if our hair did stretch? Iāll try to do more of these Joanna. Multi purposing our clothes is smart!
Love your hair up! French roll/ twist it, use hairspray, and bobby pins, just like dancing with the stars? Like the bow scarf, my eyes go right to your face. Nice look!
I always wanted enough hair to do a french roll. Iām going to keep trying ???? Thanks, I thought it was fun too
Just lovely – each look is just stunning!
Your hair looks great up! Very flattering on you.
Any link for the beautiful shoes?
Theyāre 2 years old but Iāll look for a similar pair for you. This is the same brand but slightly different. https://rstyle.me/cz-n/cybebk39zw
Thanks so much Jennifer!
In general, can you report on any methods for “popping a collar” and keeping it popped? Is it because I have a short neck, that I can never get it to work? Love the pic w/ the bow tied scarf.
I think the fabric needs to be quite crisp. I sometimes iron my collar flat to the inside which helps when I put it on. Try a crease at the back and smal 1/2ā fold in the collar. Iāll try to do a post on this.
Love the shoes you wore! Very cute!
Thanks Janet
I have this exact tunic and I love it…wear it often! I love your hair up and you should wear it that way often.
Thanks Pam. Iāve seen you wear yours and love it on you.
Another “your hair up looks amazing” comment! Could you please show the clip you used?
Thanks!
Thanks. I’ll show it but you will be disappointed. It’s a cheesy one from the drugstore:)
Jennifer, absolutely love that shirt! Itās just wonderful , the asymmetrical cut is just fabulous and I love how many different ways youāve styled it…I even quite like the pussycat bow! Very creative!
Thanks Julie. I thought the bow was really fun too. Itās an awesome shirt.
I think your hair up looks amazing! Beautiful location. Were these pictures taken outside your home?
Thanks Nancee. Yes itās a little spot down the street.
Enjoy your column. I also wanted a hair clip more stylish than a banana clip. Nordstrom has a great one. It is the Maximus Silk hair clip by Ficcare.. It comes in a lot of colors and comes in 3 sizes. I have medium length think hair and I got the medium size. Expensive for a hair clip but it holds hair well and is stylish.
Thank you Kathy! Iāll go check them out! I hope I have enough hair for one.
I agree with the comments about wearing your hair up.
It looks stylish, without being fussy.
Banana clips are so easy but I need an alternative.
I liked your post on the white blouse. I tend to shy away from white blouses and white pants due to the care. Iām a dirt and stain magnet. Please comment on the care for whites. Thank u!
If the tag allows, I bleach them. I have a bottle of Shout in the laundry room and check over my whites before they go in the wash. I always spray the inside of white collars before I wash them. I use blueing liquid every once in a while. Theyāre more work but I love the look.
After you wash them, paying attention to any spots as Jennifer pointed out! Put them out in the bright sun. Itās a natural bleaching agent.
Great idea!
Your hair does look good up..I have not figured out an alternative to the clip either. The large collars play havoc with my hairstyle
Thanks. I like it up with big collars too.
Love your hair up! So flattering!
Thanks Janie. Itās nice for a change.
I agree… a very flattering look on you!
Thanks Debbie
I’d like to ask your advice on converting a bedroom into a closet- the entire room.
I have a lot of clothes and shoes. I have to box up my out of season clothing, just to keep it all where i can access it.
The biggest problem is my budget. I don’t have a lot to spend on this project.
Where do i start?
Thank you
Rolling racks. I have one that I keep in my office and love it. Get very sturdy ones. You can move them around to organize how you like. I roll mine into my closet, hang things on it and roll them out. I store my shoes in their original boxes so I just stack them. Since you have lots of space Iād get hanging shoe racks. Lucky you! A whole room!!
Can you recommend a brand of rolling rack that you use??
I have this one and love it! It holds a ton and is very sturdy. https://rstyle.me/cz-n/cybbnr39zw
It also collapses and stores under the bed.
If a store is gong out of business in your area, ask for a rack or two. They sell them off at a much cheaper rate.
They do!
