Always Discreet Boutique: Restoring Confidence

I flew to New York earlier this month for the launch of an exciting new product created just for women. It’s called Always Discreet Boutique. It’s designed to restore the feminity and confidence of one in three women who struggle with sensitive bladder issuesĀ¹. This topic has been undercover, far too long, pardon the pun. It’s nothing to be ashamed about and we need to normalize the conversation. Women have had to put up with bulky, diaper-like products in exchange for secure protection for decades!

The event was held in the gorgeous Penthouse 45 in midtown Manhattan with fabulous views of the city.

A few facts I learned:

Many women report bladder leaks affect their confidence and half have stopped participating in social activities they enjoy because of itĀ².

Two in three women who have tried bladder leak underwear avoid wearing it because it’s bulky, ugly and makes them feel older than they want to feelĀ².

70% of women say the idea of wearing bladder leak underwear is embarrassingĀ and 61% say it’s unflatteringĀ².

88% of women say they would be more likely to wear bladder leak underwear if it looked and felt like real underwearĀ².

The Always Discreet team at Procter & Gamble heard the frustration from these women who’ve had to make a tradeoff between secure bladder leak protection and pretty underwear which makes them feel feminine and confident. They developedĀ Always Discreet Boutique bladder leak underwear to address these concerns. They’re on a mission to shift the perception of bladder leak protection through the creation of a beautifully designed product that offers maximum protection. It has the look and fit of real underwear and is pretty enough to keep in your lingerie drawer.

Only one in four women currently keep their bladder leakage underwear in their panty drawer, but 71% report they would if they were prettyĀ².Ā Always Discreet Boutique was designed with input from lingerie experts and fashion designers. It’s made of a silky-soft fabric with curve-hugging contours that is lingerie drawer worthy. The small/medium size is cut low so women can still wear the clothes and looks they love. The large size panty has a higher waistline and a control-top feel because women who used the product stated this was the most comfortable cut for them.

Learning about the protection of Always Discreet boutique

Here’s why this product offers phenomenal protection even though it has such a thin core:

  • Always Discreet Boutique has a thin, unique core technology that quickly turns liquid to gel and makes the product less bulky than Depend Silhouette. Unlike others in the category, Always Discreet has a non-woven waistband for optimal breathability to remain comfortable all day.
  • The sides and waist of the underwear have a silky smooth fabric to help it feel comfortable while youā€™re wearing it. Inside is a superabsorbent core with unique RapidDryā„¢ technology that absorbs leaks in seconds, OdorLock technology that helps neutralize odors instantly and continuously, and Absorbent Gel Material (AGM) that helps lock the fluid deep within the core and away from your body.
  • The AGM is uniquely placed within a ā€œChanneled Coreā€ technology that helps enable an efficient absorption system (protection without the bulk). Rather than absorbing leaks in one spot (where the leak hits), this core is engineered to redistribute the liquid across the full length of the core. This means absorbency power can be spread more thinly across the full length of the core. Many years of technical expertise went into the technology and design of Always Discreet Boutique Underwear.

  1. If wouldn’t be by always discreet boutique I would quit from physical activities. It’s very embarrassing wearing women’s protective underwear but I’m always protected from any leak and I don’t have embarrassing moments due to leaks anymore.

    1. Thatā€™s the important thing Ivan, having confidence in the protection!

      1. Hi Jennifer:
Thanks for your support, after being diagnosed with overactive bladder I’ll be using always discreet underwear as my daily use underwear.
They look very feminine and delicate but they’re very absorbent and discreet, they’re very useful when I’m inline skating and I have no worries about having a leak.
As a male I’ll be wearing always discreet boutique as my normal underwear.

      2. Iā€™m so glad theyā€™re a solution for you Ivan!

  2. After suffering bladder leaks and having accidents I was withdrawing from my favorite activities. Always I was looking for a washroom and then I had embarrassing moments when inline skating.
If I would like to enjoy my physical activities and staying active then I decided to put my male side down and then I tried always discreet underwear.
I decided to make some changes like accepting to use disposable panties and stay always protected.
Now I thrown out all my favorite underwear and I have replaced them by always discreet underwear despite their feminine designs such as the flowers and bows which make them comfy and discreet.

    1. Thanks for sharing your story with us Ivan. I’m glad you’ve found them and can get back to enjoying life!

  3. What a great product! So many women can regain confidence all day!

I can see how this product would be invaluable while travelling too!

Thank you for this blog. I’m sure it will help a lot of women!

    1. Totally invaluable while traveling. Getting confidence back is so powerful!

  4. I’m so happy to see this topic coming out into the open! My mother hid herself at home for years because she was embarrassed by her condition and fearful of “accidents”. I determined that if I follow in her footsteps and share this common problem, I will not allow it to restrict my life the way it did hers. So glad to know that better products are becoming available to make that promise to myself easier to keep.

    1. Products have come a long way, thank goodness. Many women struggle with this problem and they need solutions that work!!

  5. Julie from Melbourne,Australia says:

Bravo for writing about a problem that many women are embarrassed to talk about. There are also non-invasive therapies that can help women, such as the neotonus chair that does pelvic exercises for you:they have one at a health care clinic I attend.I have not used it because I haven’t had the need, but I’ve heard good things about it.
By the way, your photos are lovely and as someone else commented, your hair looked great.

    1. I have not heard of that chair, Julie. Thanks for sharing with us! This is a problem that something so many women deal with daily and needs to be discussed openly so we can all learn.

  6. Very timely information. Thank you. And for my humble opinion, your hair and makeup look great. The updo is so flattering! Love the black dress and jacket.

  7. Maggie Morris says:

You look terrific. BTW I just wanted to mention that when I had hormone pellets (including testosterone) injected my bladder issues really improved. I had always been doing Kegel exercises, but I think that bit of testosterone really helped the muscles down there. (My opinion).

    1. Wow, that’s fascinating Maggie! I’ve never heard of that before.

  8. This is something we will probably all face at some point. It’s good to know there are products out there to deal with this.

  9. Thanks for talking about a problem that needs to be talked about! And I love love the little updo in the photo!

    1. I’m happy to get this honest discussion started! It’s important for so many of us. Thanks, I liked it too. Wish I could duplicate it:)

  10. Thank you for this courageous post about a subject long neglected yet so important to ladies of a certain age. Thirty-five years ago such products were not available when my mother struggled with bladder leakage. What few items were available were bulky and caused rashes, among other things.

I looked for comparisons between Always Discreet and Poise. The only video I found lacked evidence. She poured water from a container without a spout, spilled all over the place and failed to measure so there was no actual comparison of how much fluid was actually contained.

One tiny pad can make a huge difference in confidence.

    1. Thank goodness there are better products now! This panty held a lot of liquid then felt dry to our touch. It was impressive
      Jean!

  11. You looked great for that trip and I appreciate you being the designated informer for us.

    1. It was my pleasure to learn about it and start an open discussion about it!

  12. Looks like a fabulous event for a great reason. We need products to help us in this area of incontinence when the problem can be so embarrassing. I am happy to see this on the market.

    1. It’s embarrassing and distressing so I’m happy to see this new product dealing with it. In a pretty way too!

  13. When you start leaking, run to your physiotherapist! There are exercises for your nether regions that only SOME physios know. They work!! DIY Kegels at home are not enough. You need an expert to help you. I leaked now I don’t. Do the exercises, practice bladder control and reduce your caffeine consumption. This worked for myself and my sister.

  14. You look so pretty. I love the way they made your eyes pop!

  15. I struggle with this problem and have always wanted to ask someone the difference in protection between the full panties and pads that attach to your own panties. Is one better than the other?

    1. I think testing for yourself is the best way but full panties are intended to give more secure leak protection. It makes total sense that they would.

  16. Jennifer,

Thank you ! I suffer from this and am so happy to learn of this new product.

You look just beautiful, too ! Love the fishnet hose !

    Diane

    1. It’s a common problem and I’m glad we’re getting some great products for it! Thank you. Fishnets are my fav!

  17. I always enjoy reading your blogs but this is by far the best. I suffer as well. I do wear a poise thin pad everyday, a little thicker one for tennis and walking. So glad to see this issue embraced a bit more because everyone Middle Age woman I know who’s had kids suffer from this. When do we expect to see these and where will we purchase? Thanks
