What I Wore: Double Denim
What to wear when the weather says iffy and the occasionĀ calls for casual? I reach for denim and more times than not these days, it’s double denim. Two or even three pieces of denim in the same outfit is having its moment,Ā just check Pinterest.
Today’s outfit technically includes chambray, but it’s close enough to resemble lightweight denim and has the same look.Ā

These gorgeous fall leaves have finally arrived and are hard to resist. We grabbed these pictures before I headed over to spend a very casual afternoon with my grandson.Ā
OurĀ air quality is still dangerous from the local fires so he and I headed to one of our favorite spots, the local bookstore. That meant sitting on the floor, reading and playing with the train that’s set up for little ones. I wanted to be comfy and neededĀ to be able to move around easily.
Our temps have cooled off so this cashmere poncho was a greatĀ topper. It adds a thin layer of coziness that’s perfect to wear indoors and out.
Rules abound about how to style double denim. Many believe you need to create contrast with the intensity and color of your denim. Honestly? There is no right or wrong way to style double denim so let your mood determine your look.
The number of sales this time of year just boggles the mind so I’ll share as I find them.
Deals of the Week:
Lord & Taylor leaked their Black Friday sale early with upĀ to 40% off and up to 50% off coats with the code DEALS.
Do you wear double denim? Do you follow any rules about it?
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
Oh my goodness what a perfect outfit! I like the idea of a poncho instead of an every day jacket. It also softens and styles the basic denim shirt. I would like to see other ways to soften the look of a plain denim shirt.
I love double denim. I typically mix my washes or colors but not because of anyoneās rule. I love ponchos too. Yours is perfect with your denim. I love chambray shirts but have a hard time wearing them, or any button down shirt! Iām too busty, so unless the shirt is fitted through the torso they donāt look good on me. The library seems like a great place for an adventure with your grandson!
Have you tried the Portofino shirt by Express. They donāt gape!
Thank you for this post! I have occasionally started wearing double denim. I love jeans and I love that muted denim blue color so what the heck… I just asked myself who’s rule is it anyway and why is it a rule?
Wear what you love Lily.
If I wear my jean jacket with jeans, theyāll be black ones. If I wear my chambray shirt, it will be with a dark wash denim. I like the contrast not because of any rules.
I loved taking my granddaughter to the bookstore when she was younger. She was an avid reader and always needed a new book. Weād go into the coffee shop there and order a hot Chocolates for her and a cappuccino for myself and just sit, talk and enjoy each otherās company. Sheās now 23 and graduated from university with a degree in psychology. Where did the time go?
Have a fun day with your precious grandson!
Thatās exactly what we did Joanna!! Your comment reminds me how important it is to enjoy every moment.
Nice outfit – I love the necklace. Would you share the source?
Thanks!
My necklace is from a tiny boutique…over 20 years ago. Sorry I canāt share a link.
I love everything about this outfit – it looks so cozy & comfy!
I really like the addition of grey to the denims. Very nice! Denim is still my go-to for casual days too….or leggings. I have two or three denim shirts/blouses but one is now put away with my summer clothes, as it’s a bit thin, almost linen in feel. I love your poncho! I’ll be wearing my winters coat with hood today as we had 5 inches of snow last might although it’s raining now as temps gave gotten into 40s! Woo hoo. Melting! I hope.
Wow, thatās a lot of snow Paulette. Stay warm.
Great poncho! And the leaves are so beautiful. This is a look I would wear! Thanks for the inspiration Jennifer!
