Dressing Room Diaries: Textures and Pattern

Dressing Room Diaries: Textures and Pattern

Poor store lighting makes dressing room diaries a challenge and this week it was no exception. Those overhead spotlights cast shadows under your eyes no concealer can correct and tends to make one look ghoulish. The clothes look fine but the face? Not great so here we go;)

I stopped into Anthropologie looking for an ivory or soft white, 3/4 length cozy sweater to add to my wardrobe. I found something similar but my hunt continues.

The first thing that caught my eye was this pretty blue shirt.

It’s a featherweight, super soft rayon with shirttail hemline. The pattern is starred and also comes in 3 other colors. The website says it was available in petite and that it’s almost sold out (I hate when that happens). My store had plenty available so you could check your local store.

(We had a lively discussion on my Facebook page this week about the half-tuck, do you follow me there?)

I played with a half-tuck on the left and tying it at my waist on the right so you could see the top of these high rise skinny jeans. I love the 9″ rise and very pliable denim which makes for a terrific fitting jean. The wash is very pale gray.  They are available in regular and tall. I am wearing a regular, 29.

Here’s a full-length view of the gray jeans. I switched into this modern V-neck tee in Carbon. It has a nice loose fit and the sleeves are a great length, not too short. It comes in petite which would have been a better length, less to tuck in. I topped it with this great textured cardigan. It looks ivory but is a soft gray that’s a terrific neutral. It runs large and long. I am wearing a medium in regular and needed the petite small.

I switched out the gray jeans for these high-rise Performance Leggings. Do you see the pattern here? I hate wearing clothes that give me a muffin top and high-rise pants put a stop to them.  This denim jacket caught my eye because I’ve been looking for one with a bit more room to layer things under. It looked too large on the hanger but was perfect on my body:) It comes in petite but I like the length of this regular in a medium.

I loved this Chambray Dress. I first thought it was a cheetah print, but it’s not. I would likely wear it open, tied in the back as a duster over leggings, jeans or anything. It’s also cute as a dress and I could see it with tights and booties.

Anthropologie makes some of the very softest faux fur jackets and this one is no exception. They had a blue one like this last year that I still kick myself for not buying! This jacket has chevron stripes on the top chest and is available in two colors. I am wearing the M in regular length which I prefer because I have a long torso and the petite might be too cropped on me.

These faux suede leggings are fabulous! Their pull-on style has plenty of stretch plus the center front seams down each leg has a very slimming effect. It’s a rich honey color that is so perfect for this time of year. Customers report they run small. I am wearing a 29 and could have gone up to a 30. This plaid button-down has a slim metallic thread running through it which takes it up a notch from standard plaid. It comes in 3 colorways, I am wearing the neutral one in medium.

I topped these with this long fuzzy cardigan. Several sales girls were wearing this in other colors so it’s flying off the shelves. I chose the cream for this outfit but actually came home with the mauve. It runs a bit large so I am wearing a small.

When, oh when, will retailers learn that flattering lighting makes all the difference? If they would fix those lights, we’d buy more things because they’d look better on us!!

My favourite was the chambray dress. I think you would use that one a lot. Great for when you’re travelling in your trailer. As you said, you can use it as a duster or a dress.
Lights in dressing rooms are terrible. They cast shadows and sometimes I feel like I’m overheating from the heat of the light. My pet peeve is when there is no mirror so you have to come out to see yourself. That is so the sales lady can convince you that you look great in that awful brown dress that does nothing for your fiqure nor your colouring.
I’d like to wish all your Canadians followers a Happy Thanksgiving! We are truly blessed.

I hadn’t seen their fall lineup so I’m so glad you’ve showcased it! I would love to get some of the things you’ve modeled for us. My biggest problem is finding jeans that look good on me. I had a pair of jeans that I wore almost exclusively the last two years because they looked and felt great but they’ve worn out. I bought a couple of pairs since and they just didn’t work. If you know of a line that fits a pear shape and is skinny, dark wash, soft, not thick and is stretchy without bagging out of shape please let me know! I join in saying Happy Thanksgiving this weekend to my fellow Canadians!

Hi, try American Eagle Outfitters. The make a great line of jeans for all shapes and sizes. I am the same shape and found they make great jeans for curvy women. Don’t be afraid when you see all the youngsters shopping there I think this age group is more accepting of different body shapes and unlike preceeding generations they are DEMANDING garments to cover their bodies that fit and are fashionable too. AEO can be found in most major malls in Canada and on line in $CDN. Also try Nygard for jeans again sizes for all and very comfortable I might add THE BEST leggings bar none. Thick, supportive and wear like iron.
      Happy Thanksgiving/Bonne Action de Grâce!!

Love Anthropologie! Just got a small print shirt and deep loden green slacks with racer stripe down the sides in a kind of velvet. I own them in Navy also, a last year purchase at Ann Taylor!
    I must get back there!
