Sun Protective Clothing by Ibkul

Can you ever take sun protection too far? I don’t think so and my dermatologist agrees. I was back in to see her last week to check the spot she burned off my forearm a few weeks ago. Luckily the spot was fine and we’re hoping I won’t get a white spot of depigmentation from it. #hazardsofsundamage

She did surprise me though, by complimenting me on my shirt! She recognized it because she has several in her arsenol wardrobe!

I take my sun protection seriously so when Purple poppy showed me this shirt,Ā  I wanted to try it. I’m not the outdoorsy athletic type but I do have several brands of sun protective clothing I rely on and am always on the lookout for new ones.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life modeling Ibkul top

Imagine my surpriseĀ to be completely comfortableĀ even thoughĀ the tempsĀ were in the high 80’s! It turns out Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life modeling Ibkul top

I didn’t notice the underarm mesh until I was getting out of the car. It blends so well because it has the same print.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life modeling Ibkul top

My dermatologist and I agreed that our dĆ©Ā·colleĀ·tĆ©e seems to be taking the worst beating as we get older. This zipper neckline gives you options for an extra level of protection. I unzipped it here to show you but zipped it up for the walk to my car and the drive to and from the doctor.

Purple Poppy carries this top in several patterns, here, here and this great stripe here. They even carryĀ this cute dress.

Do you wear sun protective clothing? I will be looking for more things in this amazing fabric because it does exactly what it promises and is comfy to boot.

Thanks to Purple Poppy for partnering on this post. They provided the shirt and I was compensated; all opinions are my own.

  1. Wow! This is very cool (no pun intended)! I will check this line out. I have a number of hats that are 50 spf and one long coverup that may have been from Coolibar that has long since lost its additional spf but I still wear it on the beach. I definitely need more spf clothing.

Jennifer – the shirt you are wearing looks like it is blue. The Purple Poppy site has it and it looks like dark gray/black there. How would you describe the color?

  3. I love the idea that it actually can cool you down. I will certainly look into this shirt. My skin needs to breath. Interesting that you took Large. You look so slim in it. I was going to ask you your secret for losing weight.

    1. I am 10 pounds heavier than I like and working to take it off now!

  4. It has long sleeves! So good: the three-quarters sleeve trend is so annoying when it comes to applying sunblock. I like the protective neckline, too.

    1. Interestingly, my lower forearm is where the pre-cancer was burned off and I always push my sleeves up!

  5. I’ve never had to be concerned about sun protective clothing, but my husband has. I have a couple of cute sporty coverups that I wear when we go on the boat – they are long sleeved but don’t have extra protection, so this would be a great addition to my wardrobe. I really like this top especially the striped version with the contrasting zipper. Thank you for bringing this important topic to our attention, I think more (myself included) should be concerned with sun protection.

  6. Jennifer, you look so cute in this top! What size are you wearing?

    1. I am wearing a large. I will tell you that I have very broad shoulders, a wide back and have put on some weight this summer šŸ˜‰

  7. Thank you for this potentially life saving post. Itā€™s great fashion and protection from dreadful skin cancer. Shirt looks comfortable. I would definitely wear. Good price point.
Are there similar clothing lines for men? Larger sizes.
Thank you for doing ā€œhomeworkā€ for us.

    1. It’s my pleasure to bring you things I think are stylish, smart and healthy for all of us. I know Coolibar carries many things for men and have begun buying them for my husband.

  8. I wear rash guards when outside doing something on the water, but this is much more stylish. This time of year, I can only stand to have sunscreen on my face so this is a great alternative to slathering it everywhere as I do in summer!

  9. I started wearing these tops for golf & have incorporated them into my normal wardrobe year round. Love them! Along with the mock-turtle neck, you can find them with polo-collar & long sleeve tee styles. I find them especially great for travel-theyā€™re lightweight, roll up easily, donā€™t wrinkle & are great layering pieces. Along with the source for the tops you cite, Iā€™d check out ladies golf clothes web sites. So many colors & patterns are available!

    1. That’s a great idea Suze, thanks for sharing. Golfers are exposed to a lot of sun so dressing for it is smart!

  10. I’ve never worn sun protective clothing, but this top is something I would wear. I really like the pattern.

    1. Me too! I’ll also be wearing it with slim black pants and booties this fall! Very versatile.
