New Collections at Nordstrom

Happy Sunday ladies! We are enjoying some cooler temperatures in the Bay Area this weekend and happy to be enjoying a change of pace. Before we left, I hightailed it to the mall to do dressing room diaries. My local Nordstrom had an influx of new things last week which I had fun trying on for you me.Ā It might be fun to start a new guessing game here. What did Jennifer buy or order in her size/color this time :)) I discovered two new brands which I barely scratched the surfaceĀ of, so I will go back.

The first is 1901.Ā It was formerly a menā€™s only brand, which Nordstrom has expanded to include the first ever, womenswear collection. It’s spirited and colorful with classic silhouettesĀ in preppy prints.

BUTTON DETAIL CROP PANTS // BACK BUTTON CREW NECK SWEATER

I loved the idea of these sailor pants but not this length on me. They’re available full length here, which I would prefer on my 5’4″ frame. Crops sometimes flatter me but usually make my legs appear shorter which is not a goodĀ look. The navy pants have a red polka dot so I tried on this coordinating sweater. It’s a button back crew neck which I would prefer in the navy because this warm toned red sucks the life right out of my face.

1901 POLKA DOT SWING COAT

This Polka Dot Swing Coat has bracelet length sleeves. The website says they are full length, but they aren’t. It’s a fun lightweight alternative for days that aren’t too blustery. The 1901 line is available in regular and petite. I needed the petite version in this coat and likely the entire line.

FUNNEL NECK JACKET

I loved the colors of this Funnel Neck cropped jacket. The plaids match at the front closing which is a good indication of quality. This is one size too large for me but even in the right size, the shape is wrong for my wide shoulders. This would flatter a woman looking to add balance for her triangle or pear shape.

NIC+ZOE WORK PLAY JACKET

I’m always happy to see new things from Nic+Zoe. This softly structured Nic+Zoe cotton jacket is a gorgeous moss color and very soft. I”m wearing the small which fits perfectly so I think it runs a bit large.

HUNTER PLAID SHIRT

I am a big fan of shirts by Rails. The fabrications are beautiful and the cut is flattering for a woman’s body. ThisĀ Hunter Plaid shirtĀ comes in many colors. I opted for this one in blues and ivory. I picture it with a long ivory colored sweater duster and comfy jeans. The website says it runs small but this is a medium which I always wear in their tops.

RHEA TIE NECK BLOUSE // WIDE LEG PANTS

I tried this tie neck shirt on with my jeans first and tied the bow high. Not great. Then I envisioned it for the holidays, tied it lower and put it with some full legged flowing pantsĀ that have an elastic waistband. I would prefer it tied even lower as they show online, level with the bottom of the V-neck. I like the cheery pattern with both jeans and dressed slightly up.

FEATHER HEM SWEATER // CURVES 360 BOOST JEANS

back pocket of NYDJ Curves 360 on A Well Styled LifeThe back pockets are small and triangle shaped which are more slimming than typical rear pockets. You can see how the side seam sweeps around back in a curve which is also very flattering.

CABLE NECK SWEATER // HIGH WAIST BOOT CUT JEANS

ThisĀ J.Crew Collection cable neck sweaterĀ is the mostĀ gorgeous dusty azalea color!! I adore the chunky cables for fall weekends and winter activities. The fabric is cozy and the cable pattern is just the kind I love to knit! This is one size too large for me but even in the proper size, the dropped shoulder is not a great look for me. If you have narrow shoulders or can add bulk on top, this sweater is a winner.

I’m wearing it with theseĀ High Waisted Boot Cut Jeans from NYDJ which came right home with me. They fit like a dream and the very high rise prevents muffin top which I find very uncomfortable. I opted to get the regular length to keep the rise as high as possibleĀ  (I have a long torso) and will hem them after I wash and dry for shrinkage. Here’s how I will maintain the original manufacturer hem when I shorten them.

Fuzzy V-Neck Sweater // Boot Cut Jeans

These are the same boot neck jeans with a kitten-soft fuzzy sweater. The rack held tons in black ones and only one in this pink. This is 2 sizes too large for me but I love everything else about it. It comes in 6 colors in both regular and petite. As you can tell by the sleeves I need the petite and 2-3 sizes smaller. I am wearing an XL šŸ™‚

Teddy Faux Fur Coat by Something Navy

The other new collection from Nordstrom isĀ Something Navy. This much-anticipated collection is flying off the racks. I only saw this one piece from this collection. As I carried it around, looking at other things, no less than 4 sales women mentioned how they had all tried it on and were coveting it. Sadly this was way too big for me or it would have gone home with me. It is sold out at Nordstrom but if you’re so inclined, it’s available on eBay for double and triple it’s original price! This brings new meaning to the phrase, if you love it, wait fot it to go on sale šŸ™‚

Thanks for reading ladies and have a great day!

  1. Do you find NYDJ to be one of your go-to brands for jeans? I, too, hate the muffin-top feel, and I’m always disappointed in the mid-rise jeans I wind up finding on sale. You rock the jeans, and all the looks you’ve featured, btw ;-).

    1. Yes! I love how they fit. The higher the rise the better for me;) Thank you Camille.

  2. What shoes will you wear in the winter with the NYDJ high rise boot cut jeans? Could we see a photo or two of your options? I would rather not wear skinny jeans all winter because then I have to wear long loose tops instead of fitted jackets. But can/should I wear my long boots or my booties with these jeans? Esp on the coldest days. Hard to wear flats with no sock…
    Thank you!

    1. I wear booties or shoes and socks with mine Shelley. Knee boots would leave a bump at the knee with most bootcuts.

  3. Barbara Lynch says:

I love everything you tried on. The feather hem top looks fantastic on you, but it’s hard to pick a favorite because every outfit looks wonderful. Those high waisted bootcut jeans are perfection!! Thank you so much for sharing!!

    1. Those jeans are so comfy and flattering, I wish they made them in another color!!

  4. The plaid shirt is definitely my favourite on you! It looks so comfortable. The faux fur coat in the final photos looks like a bathrobe to me, especially in that baby blue colour.

    1. The high rise bootcut is so very flattering! I am thrilled with them.

  5. Kathy Burke says:

I am so glad to see the higher waisted jeans/slacks come back. Suddenly the great epidemic of “muffin tops” will disappear. The cause was simply a waistband just under where the natural fat pad normally occurs on males and females. That’s why even younger, thinner people constantly bemoaned them.

  6. Love the polka dot coat.

  7. I like NYDJ jeans. They have quite a bit of stretch, so I always size down so they donā€™t bag out with wear.
Love that pink cable sweater! I love a tall funnel neck. I have narrow shoulders so I would buy that.
I thought the blue teddy bear coat was a bathrobe at first. That one is a big NO for me.
Have fun relaxing n your RV. I hope you get that chance to wear your booties. ????

    1. Lol, that’s what my husband thought too;) It was miles too big and long on me so that could be part of it. If I was only 6 inches taller….

  8. I always enjoy your dressing room diaries. It satisfies my need to shop without having to actually leave my home. And I always learn something from your try on sessions. We are the same size and it really helps to see how the clothes would look on me. I am high waisted as well and need high waisted pants for a more comfy fit. Thanks for sharing!

  9. They have a lot of great new selections! I will be going to North Park Mall soon and take a good look!

  10. Great try on sesh! Love the plaid shirt and that coral sweater top as well. Thanks for sharing. – Amy

  11. Great post! Had no idea Nordstrom had added two new lines. Confused as to why you feel the navy sailor pants are crops…The hem is touching your shoe? And you need to grab that polka dot coat ASAP. Like you, I need a v neck or open neckline top, so the fun feathered top and the beautiful coral sweaters are not for me but I so enjoy your dressing room adventures

    1. Thanks! Because itā€™s coming on winter, I would prefer these pants to cover my shoe. This is a perfect length for skinny pants but I prefer full leg ones to cover my shoe. They are labeled crops and this is not the petite version.

  12. I LOVE that coral color on you. I have a short neck, so it is probably not the cut for me. I agree about NYDJ! The high-waisted versions really help the dreaded muffin top. As always, great insights. I think you look good in everything! Thanks for your take. We appreciate you. Have a Glorious Sunday!

    1. It is a high mock turtle so having a long neck would be preferable. Oh, to have a long neck???? Another reason itā€™s not a great cut on me.
