Keeping Cool in White Linen

Happy Thursday ladies! Thanks for your response to yesterdays post. I chose 2 readers at random to test this new service and have emailed them. If this is a success I will let you know how you can take part in the future. Two weeks ago I shared my need to understand and wear appropriate clothes for the new activities we’re trying. We bothĀ purchasedĀ newĀ sneakers and I have found them a big improvement. Mr. AWSL wasn’t so fortunate and here’s what I wore to his doctor appointment.

During his first practice gameĀ last week he forgot to wear his new sneakers and took an unfortunate fall. He broke his distal radiusĀ (wrist). The good news is he doesnā€™t need surgery for screws or pins and just needs to wear a short arm cast for Ā 4 -6 inactive weeks.

The temperatureĀ was in the high 90’s and since I needed to schlep his stuff as well as mine, I carried a huge french market tote. I may have looked like a milkman in all white linen but I was very cool. Wrinkled but cool.

We’ve got a few RV trips planned which means Iā€™ll be figuring out how to hitch and unhook the trailer which should be fun. It’ll all be worth it because weā€™re anxious to get on the road.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing white linen suit

Iā€™ve had this white Sara Pacini linen set for over 20 years and never tire of it. I wear a simple white cotton tank under it because the linen is tissue weight and not opaque.

After the doctor, we picked up our grandson and brought him to our house for dinner. This is why we live here! Seeing him at regular intervals and being part of his life is beyond joyous. The pickleball is fun but nothing compares to our time with him.Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Eric Javits hat

Would you wear all white linen or would you feel like a milkman?

Thanks for reading ladies and have a great day!

  1. I love the all white look on you. Iā€™ve never tries it out of fear of what a short, wide hipped person would look like. Maybe just need to bite the bullet and buy some linen and try it. You make everything you show look so easy and carefree to wear. And yes geandbabies are so awesome!

    1. Try several all white looks in in the store to see what shapes you like. Itā€™s all about proportion!

  2. Iā€™m so sorry your husband has hurt himself just as youā€™re about to enjoy a summer of RVing. My girlfriend did the same. She tore a muscle that is taking a long time to heal and causing her quite a bit of discomfort. I think we need to work up to fast, strenuous activities. Weā€™re not so very young and agile anymore. Youā€™re a real trooper taking on the chore of hooking and unhooking. Watch your fingers! I know you like to drive so that part is easy. Are you heading up to BC to visit family & friends?
I just bought a pair of white jeans after reading your post. Now to keep them clean for a whole day. ????
Oh, and congrats to those that won the free consult.

    1. We are heading to BC for a couple of weeks. Can’t wait! Good luck on keeping your jeans white!

  3. I’m very much enjoying your moving adventures and transition to a hot climate wardrobe. I think your outfit looks fabulous. I have the white linen pants, but haven’t yet experienced tissue weight linen; most linen tops I find are way too hot for summer and I can’t bear to wear a tank as an extra layer. As it is, I have to put a fabric pad under my underwire bra to soak up sweat in the dead heat of summer. I may sew a white cotton voile tunic for a similar effect as the linen. Your jewelry is very beautiful, but doesn’t it make your neck hot?

    1. These necklaces did not make my neck hot because only 2 strands of cool beads touched my neck. The dead heat is a challenge so we need to do what we can to stay stylish while we are melting.

I love the white – no milkman I ever had looked so good! However, white on a regular basis get so dirty in my business that I refrain from wearing it there. Mostly patterns and black for me. And washable! I really like the styling, very chic!

  5. Oh No, poor husband! Hope all heals well.
I also love all white. I do prefer a medium weight linen top so I can avoid a tank top. I have seen low necklines on some linen tops which I can never understand…..kinda defeats the purpose of keeping cool with breathable linen.

  6. I like the look, but when I wear white pants, dirt (or art supplies….) jump right onto me.

  7. I am so sorry your husband fell and got hurt! May he heal quickly!

  8. I like white linen and natural linen and wear it often but not long pants, which are too warm for me in Arizona’s hottest months. I pair linen tops with longer shorts and always a large hat. I do like a sleeveless long linen or cotton tunic for the house, especially after a shower. It is very refreshing.

  9. Love the white linen on you and the jewelry! You look cool and chic. So sorry to hear of hubbyā€™s spill. You are a brave girl driving and hitching your travel trailer!!

    1. Thanks, Karen. I never think of myself as brave, just determined and competent:)

  10. Carol Gilbert says:

This all white outfit looks amazing on you! I’m also in love ???? with all your French Kande jewelry!

  11. I love all white! I think you look great. I have worn all white for years during the warmer weather. It is very chic!

  12. The all white outfit you have on looks so cool, certainly not like a milkman!
Sorry your husband had that accident. I definely like your hat and your jewelry. You suit hats. I had one given to me on Mother’s Day.

  13. Even though you look great, I wouldnā€™t wear the all-white outfit, but not because Iā€™d look like a milkman. When itā€™s sweltering, I canā€™t stand to wear two layers. I learned fro my wonderful British friend Eileen to go with a darker color in linen (khaki, gray, navy, etc.) and you can skip the tank underneath. Plus, the wrinkles arenā€™t nearly as noticeable. Love your jewelry!!

    1. Great idea. I am on the hunt for some navy linen this summer.

  14. Now that youā€™ve shown us how to buy white pants, I may give it a try. Love the hat!

  15. I live in Arizona and live in linen almost year round! Love the all white and I often wear some sort of blue striped blouse with the linen pants!! Your look is fabulous hat to toe ! Love the necklaces as they finish the all white look!! Youā€™ve got it Jennifer!!

  16. Jennifer,

I can’t wait to hear more about the 2 people you picked for your new service!
Sorry about your husband’s fracture but glad he doesn’t need surgery!

Anyway, I love your all white linen look and I am all for wearing white linen in the summer!
Love anything loose and baggy in the summer!

    Hugs,
    Robin

    1. Thanks Robin! I won’t be sharing what happens with the two gals I am working with. It’s a private service.

  17. I’m sorry to hear about your husband’s accident and fractured arm. That’s difficult. I hope he heals thoroughly and fast.
You look great in white linen! I love your hat and jewelry, also. I find the right fitting hat difficult to find.
I’m not sure I would get much wear in all white linen, living in MN. But this summer is proving hot enough for wearing all things cool. I would probably wear a light khaki color linen pants with a white linen shirt.

  18. Elizabeth says:

So sorry about your husbands fall. You look great and cool. Here in Texas we have to be about the cool. I tried putting on jeans for the movies and they were so hot so I opted for some cute pants from Maurice’s and they are pink and much cooler.

  19. Nan andrews says:

The all white outfit looks great. I am thinking about moving closer to my grandchildren. Glad to hear you like being closer! Do you like pickle ball? What do you wear to play?

    1. I have not played a game and got waylayed because of his injury. I do love being close to my grandson! So fun to be able to pop over for little special events.

  20. Barbara Daley says:

I love this white outfit on you. And you look nothing like a Milkman.

I totally agree with you as far as the grandchildren are concerned. Three of mine live upstairs from me and they’re the best part of my life.

  21. Such a classic, stylish look! I wear white pants very often but I love this all white linen look. The jewelry, bag and hat complete it perfectly. Thanks for all the wonderful styling advice!

  22. You look fabulous and yes, I love all white linen. Very chic and elegant. Even when it wrinkles.

  23. Nothing beats all white in the humid summer heat of Florida! A go-to favorite combo when the heat and humidity starts to climb.
    You look amazingly chic!

  24. I wear all white a lot. I bought a pair of linen white pants from old navy and they are so comfortable! So, when I go out, I will either wear the pants, a white blouse or I have a loose weave sweater with a cotton tank under it. Stylish and cool, a great combination!

  25. During hot weather an all white linen outfit of some description looks cool and chic. As I am too hot in too hot in trousers, I throw on a simple white linen shift dress with sandals. I think linen trousers do look better a wider cut rather than too skinny.

  26. I would wear all white linen but haven”t invested in an outfit because our weather usually isn’t hot enough to make it worthwhile. Speaking of styling, I’m also not sure how what you are wearing would translate to my 5’3″ pear shape. You look great though. My husband looks great in it and wears it when we vacation in warm climates.

    1. A column of any color is slimming on everyone, no matter their height. Try it on at a store and see how you like it
