Look of the Week: Dress and Go
The stores are filled with dresses but I see few women wearing them. It seems that most women reserve their dresses for fancy occasions. Perhaps thatās because there is a shortage of great casual dresses. I love how easy a dress is,Ā you just pop it on and go. No matching or coordinating necessary. Today Iām sharing a terrific dress thatāll go everywhere you need to take it.
This is the
I knew this dress would be special the second I saw it. It’s a simple dress with a unique shape. It has a fitted silhouette, V-neckline,Ā 3/4 sleeves,Ā figure-enhancing stripes, and unusual skirting detail.
The stripes are seamed on a diagonal down the front for a very slimming effect. The dress is fitted to the waist then flares dramatically into a voluminous square.Ā This gives the dress a lot of graceful drape. It also gives a lot of room if you happen to be larger on the bottom than the top.
Theyāve turned the stripes vertically on the back of the dress which is extra slimming. I like its current length but Iām going to have it shortened a few inches so itāllĀ be a better proportion for me to wear with flats.
I layered a few long necklaces rather that one that filled the neckline. This helps me look taller by balancing the length of the dress.
This dress is sized from XS to 3X. For reference, I am 5’4″ and wearing a medium.
The Victoria dress will be for travel because it doesnāt show wrinkles and folds compactly. Being a classic black and white stripe also adds to its versatilityĀ during travel. I also love this dress by Comfy which would be perfect to wear while traveling.
Do you love a great dress?
Thanks for reading ladies and have a great day!
Thank you to Artful Home for partnering on this post. They provided the dress and I was compensated and all opinions are my own.
It’s a winner! I find a dress the hardest piece to buy because I am pear shaped. White veiny legs don’t help either but I think this would work for me!
My legs are so pale they are almost blue so I swear by self-tanner. Janet
You look fabulous! I love dresses too and wear then often. At the moment I am packed for an early morning flight to LA (home) and a drive up to San Francisco and then Sonoma County. Old stomping grounds. Along with tee shirts, jeans a pair of coulottes are four dresses. I never have learned how to pack light! I always love your posts!
Have a wonderful trip! The weather here is glorious right now
You look wonderful. Love your hair, dress, jewelry and especially the shoes. I always learn from your posts. Thank you..
Thanks for being here Ginny!
I seldom wear dresses, saving them only for special occasions, but perhaps this is the summer to change that! I love your dress from the waist up, but the skirt looks a bit overwhelming. I look forward to seeing what it looks like once it’s been shortened. I think that might make all the difference.
Jennifer
I think this dress overwhelms your figure and the shoes are too heavy for it.
I appreciate that you are modelling it but it appears to be too big and long for you
We will agree to disagree on this one Jen. I like the proportions on me.
I love the dress and it looks fabulous on you but I would like to leave a comment about the shoes if I may….I find the black shoes distracting. I’ve always felt that neutral color shoes visually extend the length of the leg and allow the eye to focus on the dress. I have large feet and bunions so never want to draw attention to them!
I agree nude shoes lengthen the leg.
Will you show us the after picture of the dress once you have it hemmed?
I will!
This is definitely a great find. I rarely buy dresses anymore because so few are made with natural fabrics (synthetics are NOT hot-flash friendly). Also, because of foot and knee issues, finding nice looking, comfortable shoes can be very challenging. This one is a great length for covering imperfect legs, too. Oh, the challenges of aging. Thanks for inspiring us!
The challenges keep us hopping thatās for sure:)
Love the dress but I canāt afford it. I donāt wear dresses because 1 they are too short, 2 theyāre mostly sleeveless and Iām always cold, and 3 the price!
It is an investment but it solves the other issues.
And, dresses are often cooler than pants in warm weather! A good thought for summer.
Exactly how I feel!
I think they are spot on with features like v-neck, stripes, 3/4 sleeves, fitted and flared, etc. However, since I crossed 40 — I don’t do black except to funerals or special evening events. As I have aged, I avoid black, taupe, brown, as they seem to age me and make me look harsh. Softer colors make me look more feminine and give me a softer appearance. I’ll look at their website and see if they have these dress features in a more colorful option.
Having the fabric away from the face helps a lot!
You look wonderful in this dress. It is refreshing to see a dress, and a casual one ! I agree, there are a lot of dresses in the stores, but very few casual ones, and very few cotton/ natural fabrics, interesting since our jeans and tee shirts are cotton. I think women would wear that dress at the longer length happily!
I always have my eyes open for casual dresses because they’re so darn easy to wear. Sadly they are few and far between.
I love the dress. It is a perfect length for the girls that arenāt very tall. I like a longer dress but at 5ā5ā they usually look like a maxi dress on me.
It’s also a great option for tall ladies! Many dresses are maxi’s on me but that’s ok, I pretend they’re supposed to be.
Wow!! It is a lovely dress and you look amazing in it! Like fifteen years younger amazing… The whole look is really fantastic ( I rarely rave Jennifer!) your accessories are well chosen …even the ubiquitous French Kande jewelry is absolutely right here!!
Great work!!
Thanks so much, Allison…I am humbled by your praise! xo
Jennifer, I don’t think I’ve seen you look more fabulous. I like the length. Also I love the hair. Different part?Love the look.

Thanks Judy. I love this dress. I flip my part to the other side every so often which adds more lift:)
I would love to see the before and after photos once you get it shortened!
I will absolutely show the comparison.
I love a dress and this one is perfect for anything! I donāt where dresses much yet I love them. Finding the right one is the issue. I love Artful Home. Thank you for all the great places you give us options to shop in.
It is my pleasure to share great options for us all!
My menopausal shape makes finding good suitable-length dresses tough. But I like this one on you!
Thanks Glenda
What a great easy dress to pull on for any occasion. You look awesome and fun in this!
Thanks Pam, it’s a great dress.
I appreciate all the features you highlighted! Could you revisit this after you change the length and show them individually and side by side? I need more training in proportions before trying a dress again since Iām flats only.
I will absolutely share after I have it hemmed.
What a fabulous dress. Love this style and cut. Very flattering.
I love this dress!! Great style and looks so comfy! This will be my next purchase! You look fabulous!
Since retirement I rarely wear a dress but your choice is a really attractive one. I like that you emphasized comfort and no wrinkling. I am needing one for a summer graduation. Thanks.
I absolutely love both dresses!
Me too. Such great options!
I enjoyed seeing you in the pretty dress. I just came back from a wedding where I wore the Chicoās chevron dress with a handkerchief hem like yours. It packed beautifully and felt nice and floaty. I enjoy the freedom of a dress sometimes.
I do too Gail! I bet you looked fab!
Jennifer, you look great in this dress.
And, It has all of the features of the perfect summer dress: fit-and-flare style, just-right sleeve length, and visually creates a long, lean line. It looks very comfortable. Does it come in petite length? And, does it also come in other colors?
It does have it all. It does not come in petite so I plan to hem it a few inches. They only have it in black and white but you could add a colorful scarf if you like because the neckline would hold one nicely.
