Bix Supper Club on the Barbary Coast
Good morning ladies and happy Friday! I havenāt forgotten about Dressing Room Diaries and Iāll be back with it tomorrow. Iāve been spending time in San Francisco with my daughter this week and she always takes priority. That’s not to say we haven’t been shopping because we have…more on that in another post.
My sister in law also joined us so the 3 Connoly Women had a blast on the town. We met for dinner
The food is phenomenalĀ and the decor is stunning. It looks like an Art Deco supper club right out of the 1930’s, complete with pianoĀ player and singer. We were told the building was an old assayers office during the gold rush where miners brought their gold to be weighed and cashed out.
This is the mural behind the bar. My pictures are all very grainy becauseĀ I didn’t want to be “one of those people” who uses a flash inside.
I ate 4 times more than I should have and then we ordered dessert š It was a warm evening so after dinner, we walked over to North Beach.
I’ve driven past VesuviosĀ many times but never went in. It’s a world-renownedĀ saloon first established in 1948. We had several glasses of Prosecco andĀ played rousing card games late into the night. The peopleĀ watching was superb and it was aĀ hoot from beginning to end.
I haven’t stayed out this late for many years which reminds me what a suburban bumpkin I’ve become.
Have a great day and thank for reading ladies!
How lovely for you to spend time with your daughter and thanks for sharing your photos.
We are having a wonderful time!
Looks like a wonderful time was had by all!
What a lovely trio of ladies! Your daughter is stunning!!
Thanks Roxanne!
I haven’t thought of Vesuvio’s in ages! When I lived in Saratoga, CA, (’73-’74ish) my girlfriend and I used to drive up to San Francisco frequently and spend time there. Another friend, my first husband had known since junior high, lived upstairs and worked at City Lights Bookstore, next door. He was friends with the Beat Generation writers and musicians who hung out at both places. We got an insider’s look at the dope smoking, hippies and artistic types like Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Francis Ford Coppola who spent the afternoons debating politics and critiquing one another’s writing. Interesting times…
How fun Brenda! Youāve done it all.
Wow! Thank you for sharing a piece of home for me. Such an exciting and fun adventure. It makes me smile especially to you and your daughter. She is stunning! You are so beautiful together! Wishing you continued time together enjoying what makes you happy!
Thank you Lee, that is so kind! We are having a wonderful trip and itās so fabulous to have her here.
Oh, reminds me of when I lived in SF – if every nite could be like that. Well, then we wouldn’t appreciate then special ones!
So fun to peek into this little adventure with you.
Itās been a very special time. Thanks for being here Kathleen.
Ah, thanks for bringing back a happy memory. We loved Bix when we worked in the city and stopped with clients off and on. Is “The Butler’s in Love” painting still there?
We had dinner at Bix about 25 years when we were in SF for a wedding. Thanks for the photo reminder of what i remarkable place it was — from location in the alley to the food!
