Waiting for the Weekend

Some weeks seem longer than others and this one has dragged interminably. I can’t wait for the weekend! There isn’t enough Advil for my aching back and I’m covered with bruises. Mr. AWSL and I have put the cart before the horse and started packing. We have no idea where we’re moving yet but why wait…right? Seriously, the house neededĀ painting before we put it on the market and now seemed as good a time as ever since we’re grounded withĀ a damaged RV and no idea when the repairs will be finished. We’ve moved all the furniture out (hence the sore back) to prepare for the painter. He plans to work all weekend so I hope to read and nothing else.

In an effort to get out of the heat, and too much heavy lifting šŸ™‚ I went to Nordstrom in search of linen and loose clothes.

Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life shopping at Nordstrom

This blouse from Sanctuary is in a lightweight gauzy fabric and would feel very cool on hot days. I passed because it seemed too trendy to me now. That’s the problem with trends, they come and go so fast, I lose interest very easily.

Jennifer Connolly of A Well Styled Life wearing Caslon linen dress

I likedĀ this linen dress by CaslonĀ and thought it would feel very cool on super hot days. This picture doesn’t show the color properly (gotta love those dressing roomĀ lights) it’s a pretty blue and white stripe. This regular was too long and felt Mother Hubbardish so I ordered it in petite to see if that proportion looks better.

There were lots of other things I liked but honestly didn’t have the energy to keep changing clothes so have continued my quest online with the comfort of a heating pad on my back.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is still going strong with some “forever type”Ā Eileen Fisher pieces included. These velvet jeans will be fabulous to wear around the holidays season but will be back to full price, long before then.

Macy’s is giving an extra 20% off with the code WKND.

Neiman Marcus Last Call is giving an extra 30-50% off summer styles. They have some great linen on sale too!

Ann Taylor is having their semi-annualĀ sale and giving up to 70% off all sale styles.

This weekend can’t come soon enough for me. Do you have any fun plans?

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

You need a rest. Perfect time to fly to Vegas for some fun, relaxation, and maybe purchase a new RV from my husband. He is trying to convince me to sell our home and hit the road. Think I need a test trip first. I do enjoy reading about your trips. Feel better soon and I’, sure you’ll look fabulous in the linen dress.

Hi Jennifer, We live on the SF Peninsula and recently used a company called LUGG.com to move our furniture and boxes into our garage and a POD while we painted and refinished floors. Downloaded the app, scheduled the movers, set up payment online. Reasonable price, very good service! Came back when work was done to put everything back. So much easier…Save your back!

    1. Thanks Cathy!! I’ll look them up. My back is really screaming today!

  3. Ooo, that does not sound like fun. I think Marlene’s idea is right on. You can hire people from Task Rabbit to help you. Good luck. Hope your back feels better after a weekend off.

    1. I haven’t heard of Task Rabbit! Off to google them now…thanks Sandra!

Please take this advice from my heart to yours. The painting guys can easily move and cover your belongings. My husband and I have remodeled from top to bottom. Typically my husband was in London working. No extra charge. Be well.

    1. Great advice! My back gave out yesterday so they did move a heavy chest I just could not lift. I smiled as I heard them moan and grown carrying it up the stairs and was grateful I didn’t even try.

If it helps at all, Jennifer, I think you are so wise to get this work done now. I had been seeking a new home for 5 years, after living in a multi-story home for 45. I knew it was time to find something else having outlived a former lifestyle as a senior woman.

It took 10 months to try toi declutter, repair what was needed, etc .as I had set a goal of having my house on the market on April 1, 2013. I had NO idea where I would then go.

However, hiring someone to help me was a godsend; especially a younger person to schlep things down to the 3rd level of the house..basement/garage. In March, I walked into a model home in a new area and found it..the perfect house for me! I had one week to sell & buy. My all-ready home was on the market in 4 days and got two offers in 4 hours. SOLD!!!

I am in my perfect home; not a day goes by that I’m not grateful for having been ready when the opportunity arose. It all felt very “destined”. Good luck to you & yours..((: )

    1. I got goose bumps reading this, Marlene!! I’m so happy for you. I hope we get half as lucky as you have. xox

Jennifer, just wanted to say how much I enjoy your blog and how down to earth and “real” you seem. A refreshing change from a lot of the pretentious blogs aimed at women over 60 Thank you.

  7. Ugh – painting…it is just like moving! But I am just grateful that I am not the painter anymore! Hang in there Jennifer…this too shall pass.

I don’t envy what you’re going through Jennifer. We moved 2 years ago, and it’s amazing how much there is to do!
    XOXO

It takes a lot of courage to pack up your house without knowing what’s next. Take care of that aching back!

    1. I figure we had to dive in or apathy would hold us back. It’s sort of like jumping into a cold lake…hopefully a place will present to us !

  10. Hope the smaller dress works — it has a lot of summer potential! Enjoy the reading time!

    1. Me too! I can picture it accessorized and just on its own in the wicked heat!

  11. I moved three times last year and since finding my permanent home, have had contractors in and out for nine months and am still unpacking. My back is so bad I’m seeing “Dr. Magic Hands” and got a 90 minute massage last week and have another scheduled for Sunday. Be nice to yourself! xoxox, Brenda

    1. What a great idea, Brenda! I’ll look for magic hands locally!! Thanks for the idea.

  12. Moving is so much work!! I understand the Advil…here’s hoping your discover a new place which is beyond your expectations!!

    1. Me too! I’m trying to declutter as we go, but one of us has a hard time letting things go!
