Wearing Your Favorite Fabric: Fashion Over 50

Happy Sunday, ladies! I hope you’re having a great weekend. Mine has been very productive. We finally bit the bullet and bought a new couch yesterday. We got a screaming deal at an outlet, but more on that when we get it home and I can show pictures. Today I’m sharing my favorite fabric. Do you have one?

This J Jill blouse and Soft Surroundings Metro Leggings have stretch built right into their fabrics

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of stretch in my clothes. Most of my woven fabrics have Lycra or spandex built right in. That ensuresĀ my clothes move with me, stretch when and where they need to and are comfortable.

Cloud Tunic by Lisa Bayne and Eileen Fisher pencil skirt are both stretch knits

Soft knits have long been my favorite for tops, pants, skirts and dresses. Their stretch helps them drape nicely andĀ retain their shape. I prefer soft to stiff, drape over structure and ease over confining.

Chico's jacket and girlfriend jeans with stretch
This jacket, tank and Girlfriend Jeans from Chico’s, all have stretch built into their fabric

I mistakenly bought a pair of blue jeans without stretch this summer. They were so uncomfortable I donated them after my second wearing! Life’s too short to wear pants thatĀ bind and dig in!

Stretch jeans, jacket and shoes
Even my shoes ( Bernie Mev) have stretch built into their fabric

Love the faux leather on your sleeves!

  2. You look gorgeous in every single photo. If I had to pick my favorite…………I’d really be at a loss. They’re all wonderful.

Yes I like a bit of stretch, too. My jeans must have them for comfort and movement. Merino wool and cashmere tops for this time of year are my favorites.

    1. What did women do before jeans were made with stretch!!

  3. I’ve bought 5 white blouses and all of them weren’t for me but THIS one at the top…looks perfect! I went to Jjill…which blouse is this?

    1. This was their simple no iron tunic blouse. Very plain and straight. Chico’s make a very similar one.

  4. Do you wash your jeans or have them dry cleaned? What looks best? Thank you.

    1. I machine wash and dry my jeans, always!
