Welcome to the Weekend: What’s New

This has been a very quiet week spent mostly on my couch… trying to get rid of my bronchitis. I was having trouble catching my breath on Tuesday so I visited my own doctor who insisted I was not well enough to get my tooth implant surgery the following day. I was really disappointed but in my heart, I knew conscious sedation was not a good plan while I was having trouble breathing.

Two inhalers later, I seem to finally be turning the corner on this thing and have rescheduled my oral surgery for next week. I can’t wait to get this flipper out of my mouth!

Vince Camuto off shoulder striped top

I bought this off shoulder blouse during a trip to Houston last month and discovered it was too bulky on me. Because the fabric is woven, it stands too far from my torso and makes me look larger than I am. Never my plan, so I gathered the hem and knotted it at the side.

It’s still is not my favorite look. That’s what happens when I buy something without trying it on. Luckily I sew, so I plan to both shorten and narrow the body of this top. I’ll let you know how it goes.

My husband is planning to cook dinner on Mother’s Day which should be fun. He’s just taking up cooking in his retirement and shows great promise!

A little retail therapy? There are some great sales happening this weekend if you’d like to treat yourself…which is never a bad idea on Mother’s Day!

Hi, do you know a site that has clothes for the 70 to 80 group there are a lot of us and nowhere to shop that has style.? Thank you.

I think we can shop most places if we are selective, Jackie. Depending on your personal style, there are pieces to choose from at all major department stores and many specialty stores. Frumpy is to be avoided at all costs so be sure to use your accessories to make the look your own.

The top looks lovely tied. Like you, I sew and frequently tinker with purchases (especially the ones I can’t return). It gives me a lot of joy to figure out a way to make the garment look better on me and then make it happen.

I was interested to read in an earlier post that your daughter lives in Vancouver – one of my favorite cities and arguably one of the most beautiful cities in the world. She’s very fortunate! How did she end up there?

    Happy Mother’s Day to you!

Happy Mother’s Day to you too! My daughter went to the University of Victoria, another stunning city then ended up working for a great company in Vancouver. We miss her terribly!

    Jennifer,
The top looks really cute on you. On another topic, I just had my first oral surgery for my tooth implant. The conscious sedation is a dream – literally. Eating soft foods for several days — no problem. A little swollen, again, no big deal. It will take several months with all the steps to get my final crown, but like you, I’m SO GRATEFUL for all the technology and tools available to us these days. And like you, when they told me I needed a tooth implant, my first reaction was, uh oh – is this what getting older is bringing? Then my husband and I had a chuckle about it and off we went.
Wishing you the very best healing with your surgery next week.
    Always enjoy your blog.

The top is sill cute on you! You always look great! I am 61 today! I still am learning to dress. I never realized at a younger age the art of style. Thank you for your help!

Thanks, Terri. I think the older we get the more fun we can have with fashion. The confidence gained by knowing we look great makes everything sweeter.

Jennifer, you look great. I love your blog. You have given me great ideas.
I found you when you were highlighted on Chicos website.
Any possibility of more clothes from Chicos?. I bought everything you modeled from Chicos.

I hoped my husband would learn to cook in retirement, even offered to teach him, but alas he was a most disinterested student and almost ten years later, I’m still doing the cooking!
