Style Tips for Feeling Confident

Welcome to this week’s Hit Your Style Sweet Spot, my collaboration with Pam from Over 50 Feeling 40. You’ve hit your Style Sweet Spot when your appearance is sending the message you intend, and you feel confident that you look your best. This week we are sharing our favorite style tip for January.

My best tip of all time is to dress to feel confident for the lifestyle and situation you find yourself in.

Fashion and Style for RV travel Over 50

I’m spending the month in a Palm Springs RV park, living out of a small trailer. The dress code here is very relaxed.

dressing for comfort and confidenceThe crack of dawn finds many of my neighbors walking their dogs in PJ’s with a coat tossed on top. Have I done that? Nope, because I ask my husband to walk her:)

fashion and style for feeling confident after 50

Yesterday it warmed up and we went to a barbecue at this RV park. I knew the dress code would be casual but needed to stay true to my style.

Classic accessories dress up a simple t-shirt and pantsI don’t mind standing out, but I didn’t want to stick out like a sore thumb. That’s not comfortable for me either.

Fashion and Style for Women over 50

I channeled Audrey Hepburn and wore a T-shirt from Target, Eileen Fisher cigarette pants, and ballet flats.

a pop of color in a scarf energizes an all black outfit

Feeling just a little drab in all black, I added a colorful scarf knotted as a necklace. My hat and sunglasses were sun protection and added a touch of elegance.

casual and confident in simple classics

I wore simple earrings and added no bracelets. Most women there wore no jewelry at all, so this was perfect. I felt confident, stylish and not overdressed. This was how I hit my Style Sweet Spot to meet new people at a casual barbecue.

Now let’s go see what Pam’s style tip is.

You look perfect for Palm Springs…it is windchill temps of 15 even in South Texas this morning so your decision to go to Palm Springs is looking pretty good and so does your hat!

Brrr! It’s not as hot as I was hoping for, but it’s dry and mild. Except st night !

Having travelled around in an RV for a few years and stopped at many an RV Park, I have seen the same pajama donned early morning dog walkers. Also a few too many men in their 70s with no shirt taking that sunrise stroll. PLEASE!!! Ugh. I never did because, alas, we have no dog. I love the pink scarf. Tell me, what is its size before you’ve twisted and knotted it. I like any way to wear a scarf that isn’t snug around my neck and yours looks so cute. The pop of color is great.

You are my RV inspiration, Barbara. It’s a standard 52″ square. I too, love finding new ways to wear scarves.

Love this post! I so often feel tempted to run errands wearing sweats. But honestly, taking 5 minutes to put on jeans, sweater, foundation, and blush, makes me feel so much more put together, inside and out! Looking great Jennifer! xx Zuma

    Jennifer,

I think the Prada sunglasses are 100% my style. Trying them on is at the top of my list.

Thank you for breaking down your outfit. It makes it easy for me to assess whether the look will work for me at my workplace.

    You look very pulled together.

Thanks, Joan. If these don’t look great on you, there are lots of other large, round, acetate options out there. Good luck.

Simply stylish! I’m curious about how you tied the scarf. Is it tied behind your neck or were you able to hide the ends inside the front knot? Thanks Jennifer.

I tied it behind my neck in back, Ann.

Jennifer you look great and I love this classic Audrey outfit.
You also look slim and svelte… dressing your style in a comfortable way, what’s not to love?

Ah thanks, Leslie. The slimming power of all black. I’ve been eating very carefully lately and hope the scale is budging down a bit 🙂

I love the way your scarf and hat take a simple outfit up a level without being over the top. I’m going to keep that in mind as I consider what to pack for an upcoming trip to Mexico.

Another trip to Palm Springs is on my wish list. Keep enjoying. Your outfit was perfect.

You often wear Eileen Fisher pants. Are you a petite? I was in Las Vegas for a few days and was hoping to find some but every store in the huge mall just carried regular sizes. Do you order online. The added costs of conversion, shipping and duty to Canada hurts. I’ll need to wait until a major sale. I’ll watch for you to flag a sale.

I can wear the regular and petite pants, Julie. Most of what I own are Petites. I will let you know when I find them on sale. Nordstrom has some terrific ones! They do have one or two outlet stores too but I don’t think those items are online to purchase.

There are plenty of stores in Canada that carry Eileen Fisher clothing. Check better boutiques in your town or Nordstrom’s if you are in Ottawa, Toronto and I believe there is one in Calgary. Shepherd’s in Ottawa carries Eileen Fisher and, to my great delight Comfy USA!!!…so no need to cross the border:)

Your outfit looks just perfect: casual and comfortable, but with style. Also, thanks for the weather report, we’ll be in Palm Desert next weekend… I’ll be sure to pack some warm clothes.
