She Wore Blue Velvet-een

Velvet is everywhere this season and velveteen isĀ coming in at a close second. It’s no longer reserved for evening or holiday wear and showingĀ up on everything from sneakers toĀ ball caps. Long ago I was told you never wear velvet before Thanksgiving or after New Years so I’m working hard to rewire that thinking. Those antiquated rules are meant to be broken.

I haven’t worn blazers for many years and had forgotten how transformative they can be. Pop a jacket over anything and you elevate the look of most outfits.

This deeply saturated blue is enhanced by the subtle sheen of the velveteen. It was a toss-up between the soft Pink, Teal or this Midnight Blue and you see which won out. I wanted to wear it with blue jeans as a column of color.

I like that this jacket is only available to order online which makes it feel a bit more exclusive.

The notched collar stands up and is perfect to pop a white shirt collar over.

Besom pockets make it dressier than jackets with patch pockets so this could be dressed way up. I folded the sleeves and shirt cuff up to make it sportier. It also allowed me to pile on some bracelets, which is a favorite place for me to accessorize.

This feels like an elegant step up from my denim jacket and feels oh so sophisticated. A quick peek around the internet shows that this jacket is an amazing price for a Velveteen Blazer.

Do you wear velvet and velveteen year round?

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Beautiful! Do you think those of us who are apple shaped and plus sized can wear this fabric and style? I especially enjoy your pictures because we have the same coloring. I am far from petite though.

    1. Yes I do Karen. Wear a column of color under the jacket (head to toe one color) and leave it open. I probably won’t button this either. The fabric is not bulky at all!

EEEKKK! I want to edit my previous email. I meant to type” blue blazer, blue glasses, and blue EYES” instead of doubling up on the glasses. I guess I was so excited by how wonderful the post was that I lost my marbles at a crucial moment while typing.

  5. Itā€™s amazing how a jacket can take a plain outfit and make it ā€˜wow!ā€™. And, I love a crisp white shirt. This is my way of dressing. ????

  6. Great outfit. And that color is perfect on you. Love it

  7. Love that color on you, Jennifer. Been thinking about you and the California fires in the Napa area. Are you affected?

    1. We are fine, thanks Valorie. The air is very, very smokey and the air quality is horrible.

  11. Love your comments abou expanding the velvet season beyond the holidays! Looks great and you have an outfit that is flattering and wearable for months. I had my eye on a navy velvet blazer last winter and should resume the search for this year. Thanks!

    1. This would be a great year to find your navy blazer because there’s so much of it around, Deanne. It’s a forever fabric!
