Welcome to the Weekend: Sunny Mexico

Yay, it’s the weekend! I started mine very early. Thursday to be exactĀ when we flew to Mexico for a sunny vacation in Loreto Bay. With my husband retired we’re finding it pretty easy to pick up and go whenever the moodĀ strikes us.

Our first stop, directly from the airport was a favorite restaurant in downtown Loreto for shrimp tacos. I’m looking a little worse for wear because our flight departed at 5:40 amĀ which meant very little sleep the night before.

The community we’re staying in is predominantly made up of Canadians and Americans who bought second homes here. My brother owns a pretty place here where he spends his winters to avoid the gray nastiness of the Pacific Northwest.

This is our third trip down to visit him and every time we come we think HMMM, should we look to buy a second home here?Ā I love the colorful homes here and the beautiful front doors are all so unique.

The whale watching is amazing. The food is excellent and the company is the best! Since we sold our home on Vancouver Island I don’t get to spend nearly enough time with my brother so we have a lot of catching up to do.

sun hats and a fun novel

I brought copious amounts of sunscreen, bug spray for No See Um’s that attack in the evenings, 4 sun hats and a novel that is proving to be interesting.

Have a great Saturday and I hope the sun is shining where you are.

    1. It’s so relaxing!!

  3. Tell us more about this lovely spot. My husband & I have been thinking of renting a place in Mexico for a month during our rainy winters.
    Enjoy that sunshine!

    1. Loretto Bay is north of Cabo and has very little tourist population. It’s got lovely little homes for sale and to rent reasonably. The expat population here is very friendly and socially active. Loreto Bay is a community about 7 miles south of the town of Loreto on the Baja side.

  4. Pleas post your outfits for this trip

    1. They are not fancy at all, but I will, Irene.

  5. Looks like a fabulous vacation spot! We haven’t been to Mexico in years, would love to get back sometime.

    1. Loreto Bay is a sleepy little place with very few tourists which is how I prefer it.

  6. I know a woman, Carol, who has a home in Loreto Bay. Her husband, an architect from Victoria, was involved with David Butterfield when they developed the plans!
    You may know them!

    Enjoy your holiday!

Have wonderful time! Looking forward to your vacation posts and hope you get in some silver shopping.

    1. On my list!! I love silver.

  9. Hi Jennifer! Isn’t retirement just grand!! What a beautiful spot!! Question…how do you pack your hats so they don’t get squished? I’m going on a Viking River Cruise to France in two weeks and would love to take my Coolibar SPF hat,but I’ve never had good luck packing hats. It has a wide brim, I love it, and don’t want to ruin it.

    1. 2 of mine are very large Coolibar hats too. I pack them upside down in my small suitcase. I pad clothes all around under the brim until they are flat, then stuff the center of with soft clothes, then cover the top. If the brims are too wide for the suitcase, I roll gently and stuff that roll with soft clothes. Because the hats are upside down in the suitcase, the “roll” is down and the hat shakes out easily. I stack the hat brims inside each other like paper cups first. I do have a post showing it which I’ll find and link here later.
