Look of the Week: Slimming Navy

Navy must be on my radar this fall because I’m seeing it everywhere…and loving it. That doesn’t mean I don’t still adore black; it just means navy is trending, so more of it is available. Colors go in cycles, and when your favorites are around, it’s smart to invest in them.

I am having a lot of success finding great alternatives to my standard black stretch pant. Don’t get me wrong, I still wear the black…just not every day.

These So Slimming Elyse pants have a pin tuck front seam that’s both elongating and slimming. It’s ponte knit fabric is a very fine weave and quite elegant looking.

Chico’s sizing remains consistent but unfortunately my body hasn’t. I was unhappily surprised to need to go up a size in these last week. My lack of exercise and summer vacation eating habits need to change, or I’ll be bumping up another size before I know it!

The Elyse pant is available in tall, regular, petite and short length. I like this short on me. I could have worn the petite but am preferring ankle coverage this fall.

The Karena Tee is perfect for layering under everything.

Vests are perfect this time of year in Northern California. It’s not cold enough to need a jacket, but a cotton top is often not enough. This Johanna vest is fitted with darts and a waist seam for shaping and slimming.

Head to toe navy from Chico's is slimming

I added a pop of color with these berry suede flats, silver hoops, large bangle, and French Kande pendant.

Wearing any color head to toe is slimming. Wearing it in a flattering color is even better.

Have a great week.

Love how you styled this outfit. Today I wore a column of navy with a light beige blazer and a silk scarf that combined the blues and browns and cream tones. I felt dressed for any occasion, all the errands of the day. Isn’t it wonderful that we can look fabulous at any age!

Your vest is a dream. And your blog is a joy.

    1. That sounds so pretty! Thanks very much, Honey.

  2. Very nice, especially with the vest open. Your burgundy flats add that perfect touch of color to keep things lively and the single medallion adds an interesting detail without being overdone–I generally find the two pendant look overkill and matronly. Classic with a twist, along with the flattering formal outfit you posted not long ago.

  3. I love black but it doesn’t love me. Navy is so much better for my complexion (I’m blonde and fair like you) and I’ve been thrilled to see it more and more in the stores. I already have the pants from Chico’s but will check out the vest. The all-one color looks great on you!

  4. Your choice to wear navy in a column style of dressing is a very flattering look on you. I love that you chose those berry flats as a pop of color. Perfect!

  5. I too like navy but it is a hard color to match unless you buy several items at once from the same place. . There are yellow cast navies, black cast etc. Has this been a problem for you?

    1. I do pay attention to the cast, and if they are both cool I mix them. A green under toned navy would look rather il next to a warm toned one. Good call, Jill!

  6. I love the details of the sweater…and I empathize with you on the sizing up.

I am not happy with my changing shape and I walk everyday, same as several years ago when I lost 30 pounds but something is amiss with my metabolism…the thyroid meds have been reduced and age and hormones are doing their thing so I am fighting to get back into shape and think I need to do some weight training or swimming.
Apologize for the rant but your comment struck a chord with me this morning!

In the meantime you look fabulous so I hope you enjoy yourself!

    1. You are welcome to the rant!! Many of us are in the same boat with you. My weight has been steadily climbing since they altered my Thyroid meds last January. I admit I am not getting enough exercise, but this is ridiculous!

  7. Those pants are getting such great reviews everywhere, I’ll have to try them! The vest is also a great fall option. Great look.

I just signed up and enjoy seeing you in Chico’s clothes. They are my favorite-classic and ageless. Thanks

  9. Jennifer!!
I love that you added in a different color for your shoes—to me that’s so refreshing!!
And I really like navy too—it’s funny, I don’t have as much of it in my closet, but I really like how it looks on me—definitely not as severe as black!
