Luxurious Pampering for Aging Skin

Some luxuries are more practical than others.

I bought my first Savvy Sleeper because they’re beautiful.Ā They’re recommended by top hair stylists to prevent split ends.Ā I’ve also found they prevent my hair from massive destruction and goofy bed-head in the morning!

They’re also Dermatologist recommended for preventing wrinkles.Ā I’ve found they really do prevent my face from looking like a road map in the morning. I sleep on my side which wrecks havoc with a regular pillowcase, but not these. I’m so hooked, I traveled with mine on our Motorhome trip.

The older I get, the thinner and more sensitive my skin becomes. Our skin normally thins as we age, but I’ve done some extra damage to accelerate it on my face.

  • I used Accutane in my early 40’s because I was still breaking out regularly, but also developing wrinkles! Clearly unfair!Ā It fixed the acne, but left my skin super-sensitive to everything.
  • I used Retin A for many years for the break outs. My Dermatologist has just put me back on it to slough non-cancerous keratosis off my face, before they need to be frozen off. Then of course there’s the promised wrinkle reducing benefit of Retin A (jury is still out on that one).

The upshot is I have fragile, hypersensitive skin that needs special, gentle care.Ā Basically, I can sleep standing up, or sleep on the softest pillowcases available. And that’s these.

~~~
Last year I bought one for me and one for my daughter in “White Russian”. It was love at first sleep.
They’re incredibly soft, smooth and look so elegant. I feel like a 1930’s Starlet slipping into my bed, piled high with these oh-so-soft, luxurious pillow cases.
After about a month I started to wake up in the night because my head was being crowded off my pillow! My husband’s body was on his side of our enormous bed, but his head was on my side…on my pillow.
We’ve been married close to 37 years. Cuddling is one thing, but this was flat-out pillow encroachment. I’d yank it out from under him and he’d move back to his own pillow…but never for long.Ā When I saw they’d come out with some new colors I decided I’d buy one in Vintage Rose. It’s a soft, modern pink.
The first night I put it on my side, he looked at it askance and asked, “what’s that?”.Ā “It’s Ā mine” seemed answer enough.
Since he wasn’t a fan of my painting the bedroom pink, I figured this color would keep his wandering head off my pillow. Truly a dumb conclusion, Jennifer.
  1. It’s too dark for him to see the color of a pillow case in the dark.
  2. His eyes are closed, so of course he can’t see the pink.
Although this makes these beauties romantic, I’m getting my husband his own for our upcoming anniversary.
So while these beauties keep wrinkles at bay, foster romance and protect your hair from damage, for me… it’s all about the comfort and gentleness on my skin.
Post script: I removed the following sentences from my original post because I thought themĀ unnecessary. I was wrong, and so I’m adding them back.
“Satin is available in silk or polyester. These are polyester. Silk would require special laundering care, then ironing and not be as soft as these. These come out of the washer and dryer, smooth as glass.Ā
Now, I could neverĀ wear polyester, (thank you menopause and all the joys that accompany it), but it’s not an issue in a pillowcase. I don’t perspire sleeping on a polyester pillowcase. They feel cool and smooth under my face.”
  1. “I feel like a 1930s starlet.” Love that line! Now you need boudoir slippers with a fur pom-pom.
  2. I sleep on a silk pillowcase because cotton was giving me a creased face. I find it makes my hair smoother too. These look like a lovely alternative!
    1. It really does make a difference Jen. I remember those days when everyone wanted satin sheets! I wonder if they’d keep my knee skin from wrinkling? šŸ™‚
  3. Polyester satin pillowcase! I don’t think so. What you want is 100% silk satin. Silk is a natural fiber. It is comfortable and breathes, and is not hot and sticky like polyester. Do your research.
    1. You bring up a good point Sharon. I admit to being skeptical when I learned they were polyester, which has a negative stigma. But once I tried them, I was delighted. I could never wear polyester, but I can sleep on top of it. I agree silk breathes and is a wonderful fabric to wear, but for my pillowcases,these work beautifully. I think if you tried these, you’d realize they are not hot and sticky.
  4. I will take a look at this. I have a silk pillow case and, well, one is not enough when you consider down time for washing it.
    PS try a cat for keeping your husband on his side. Our ginger cat curls up between out pillows. It works a treat!
    1. I think my husband would stay on his own side of the bed if I simply threatened him with getting a cat!!
    These sound lovely. I just invested in linen bedding. Linen isn’t probably any better on the face than cotton, although I love the feel of it. Thanks for the link. And I love the story about your husband!
    1. What counts is that you love the way it feels! I have enough trouble with menopausal insomnia that I have to be comfy. It’ll be funny when my husband reads this piece and sees himself in it:)
    After reading all the glowing comments I’m rather reluctant to say a few differing things. Not too concerned about wrinkles, my hair doesn’t move, hubby stays way over on king size bed and- this is the nervy part- I don’t really like the feel of a satin pillowcase. Egyptian cotton all the way. Nice post and offer. Great review.
    1. Roslyn, I’m happy to hear your opinion! We are all unique and if you don’t like the feel, you simply don’t like it.
      I adore the feel of my Egyptian Cotton sheets! They’re cool and silky to slip between. However, when I sleep on a cotton pillowcase, my skin gets chapped and sore, because it’s so fragile. Have a great day!!
  7. I love this story about your husband stealing some savvy from you, Jen! As you know, I’m a huge fan of Dale and her Savvy Sleepers. I enjoyed meeting her for coffee while she was in Chico last fall. What a fun giveaway! I bought Savvy Sleepers in bulk for the holidays. They make the perfect gift. I’m addicted!
    xx, Heather
    1. They do make the perfect gift. I may stock up for girlfriends’ birthdays. Of course my husband is going to love his. I’m hoping to meet Dale the next time she is in the country.
      I’m hooked on these too.
      xo
  8. I love the idea but I’m so pernickety, I have to have matching bed linen or I’ll get twitchy!
    1. I’m the same way Tabs. That’s why I started with white. But now I’m loving this pink one, because the I know it’s mine. I can’t share pillows. Makes me crazy!! As many things do šŸ™‚
    1. Enter the give away on Instagram tomorrow Pam!! You’d love one.
  9. My mother in law had a silk pillow case years and years ago to keep her hair from mussing during the night. She never mentioned the wrinkle aspect _may be didn’t know back then but I think it is a wonderful way to help with both.
    1. Bravo to your mother in law! She was ahead of her time!
  10. O.K., I’ll definitely be getting myself a new pillow to pamper my sensitive skin, too. More than likely, I will be chasing one of my cats off of it, rather than my husband. He has a tendency to throw his arms out when he sleeps, so it’s not his head I’m worried about, but a right cross to the cheek.
    Have you tried the RemĆØde Sweep yet? Let me know.
    Cheers, M-T
    1. You too? I dodge his left hooks because I’m on the left side of the bed! He actually clocked me one time in his sleep!! You’ll love this pillowcase! Promise!!
      I haven’t tried the Remede Sweep yet. Will keep you posted.
      xo
    jennifer, love this product and am going to order one. I love the pink, but am wondering about the shade. Is it a bright pink or soft pink? Thanks, M
    1. It’s a soft pink! The color in my photo is exact. It’s a strong pastel pink but not washed out!
  12. Wonderful news! Will go check the links out now. Thanks Jennifer.
  13. Jennifer, you are every girl’s best BEAUTYful friend! You tell it like it is and endorse only what you know first-hand. When I hear or see you discussing products or procedures I always head right over.
    As you know, it was exactly a year ago that I was going through the healing process after CO2 Laser surgery. My nurses told me to only sleep on a 100% satin pillowcase. Turns out that (while healing) my favorite 500 count super soft 100% Egyptian cotton case would scratch and possibly even leave scars! I started sleeping on 100% satin and have never looked back.
    I should also mention how difficult is to find pretty satin cases. As much as I love sleeping on them, I always hide them under all my pretty Euro shams. I am thrilled to learn about Savvy Sleepers! I went to their website and am very impressed by their beautiful product!
    Jennifer, your endorsement is once again spot on. Thank you!
    Lisa
    1. Thanks Lisa! You’re right, and you know as a blogger, we get offers to review products everyday. I actually emailed Dale and ASKED if I could review her product…I love it that much! These are such easy care. You’ll love the quality. xo
  14. I will get one maybe two!Went right away to INSTAGRAM……………looks like they are here for the GIFT SHOW?
    I think I have mentioned IGA before to you………………….WE SHOULD CHAT ABOUT HER!
    LOVE THE PINK!!!!!!!
    XO
    1. The contest starts on Instagram tomorrow! You would love these!! It doesn’t surprise me they’d be at the gift show. They make fabulisu gifts for men or women šŸ™‚
  15. Jennifer I love the story about your husband encroaching on YOUR satin pillow!
    Too funny, though it sounds like he has good reason! I would love to have one of these luxurious pillows!
    1. The softness can’t be beat. My husband will laugh when he gets the gift, but he will love it!!
  16. I need this! As you know, have been trying so many things to make my skin better and all have made it worse, so I am going back to nars and Clinique and staying there! I could use something for the wrinkles…
    1. I swear by these and a humidifier next to the bed!!
