WHAT TO WEAR WHEN IT’S 95 DEGREES OUT

Last week and this, we’ve had several tooĀ many days that were real scorchers. TempsĀ have hovered in the 90, 95, andĀ 100-degree range. That’s melting temperature for me so I’ve been struggling with what to wear. At my age, the answer isn’t as little as possible so I reach for…

natural fibers. Fabrics that breathe and don’t lay too close to my body. Here’s what I’ve been wearing.

This Eileen Fisher silk shirt is very cool to wear and I love its tunic length. Many of her things are oversized and too boxy for me, but this is fitted through the armholes and shoulders so doesn’t make me look larger than I am. It’s at least 6 years old but gets worn every summer.

At a friends house for dinner last week, we decided to eat outside and watch the sunset from their deck. It was gorgeous but my cool linen shirt was an accordionedĀ hot mess by the time we went inside. Sometimes wrinkled linen bothers me, other times I’m willing to sacrifice smooth looking for a cool feeling. It was 100 degrees at 6 pm that night.

White cotton shirts are a great option for the heat because they look crisp, no matter the temperature. I always roll my cuffs to help me look taller and it also showcases my bracelets.

Necklaces are just too hot around my neck these days so I’m focusing on earrings. Slightly bigger earrings that make a bit more impact, but are still lightweight.

Oh and hats! When the temperature is over 90 and the sun is brutal, I know no amount of sunscreen is strong enough. Hats do causeĀ sweaty hair syndromeĀ but that’s a price I’ll pay for extra sun protection on my face.

These are the days that loose cotton and linen dresses are made for. For some reason, the onesĀ in my wardrobe are suddenly shot so I’m going to hit the sales and see if I can pick up a few. That’s the beauty of this time of year…there are great sales are everywhere!

What do you wear when the temperatures are scorching?

Thanks for reading and have a great day!

In the summer I love a white blouse and how you “Pop That Collar”. Something about it is also attractive to me, however I struggle with how to keep my collar up. Any hints on how to maintain it, other than starch?

    1. Starch helps but some shirts just have more oomph. Sometimes I iron the collar flat (straight) and that helps.

Excellent and helpful post. Thank you!

  3. Our temps are over 100. I know that when we get to 90 for overnight temps we are in trouble. I have been wearing kimonos to work more this year…they are a nice substitute for a suit jacket. EVERYONE in South Texas dresses down in the summer…you have to for survival. I also like that EF top a lot!

    1. We cooled off for 2 days then bounced right back up. Kimonos are a great idea!!

I am wowed by the lipstick color you are wearing – especially in the closeup in your sunglasses. So enhancing to your skin tone, but very natural looking as well! Would you mind sharing the shade and make of that lipstick?

    1. Thanks Sarah. It’s Fascination by Jane Iredale. I love it!

  5. I like FLAX linen swing tops. Yes they wrinkle—but so am I! Air circulates under and through. I also prefer cotton in hot weather.

    1. Love that Sue!! I’m wrinkled too so I shouldn’t judge the linen.

Jennifer – You mentioned that you use Rogaine, do you use the foam or liquid? My hair is very thin in the front, I purchased the foam but curious which you have been using. Enjoy your e-mails.

    1. Hi Loretta. I started using the foam but I didn’t think it was getting all the way to
my scalp so I switched to the liquid and I’m very happy with it now!

  7. Thank you for your great pictures. You always look fabulous.

  8. Loose cotton dresses. Tunic tops and knee length shorts. Vionic sandals & flipflops (for the arch support & my heel spurs) and hats. Usually my coolibar hats that I ordered after a tip from you a couple years ago. Love them. I’m back home in Arizona now where it’s hot, hot & more hot!!

    1. Your trip was simply amazing!! We booked the glamping tent for end of August. I can’t wait to go.

  9. Absolutely lovethat first top! It kinda looks like camouflage, not my favorite, but this is pretty.

    1. I’m not a fan of camouflage either, Karen, but this blouse is a favorite! Cool and more polished looking than camo would be šŸ™‚

  10. I like to wear a nice loose caftan when I feel like I’m boiling to death…
    šŸ™‚ Chris

    1. Brilliant Chris! I need to get a pretty caftan! Do you sew yours?

  11. Elizabeth says:

So funny you would say that about necklaces. Me too. Earrings and bracelets are all I can stand about now. And the cooler blouse the better.

    1. And silk scarves are even worse for me in the heat,Elizabeth!
