Coasting North in the Pacific Northwest

We headed north again yesterday. Have I mentioned that I doĀ all the driving because my husband morphs into a deranged driver behind the wheel?Ā I’ve been my designated driver for the last 30 years. My blood pressure just can’t handleĀ his driving. So he back seat drivesĀ navigates from the passenger seat.Ā

Chico's girlfriend jeans are perfect for a road trip

Driving through Trinidad we stopped at this cute one-roomed school house. The grass was tall and soggy. Tip toeing through a minefield of Elk droppings was a challenge wearing leopard flats… but we got some fun pictures:)

We’d seen signs for Elk crossing on the highway, but their poop was all we’d sighted. Until we came to Elk Meadow.

Elk Meadow is full of, you guessed it, Elks

They just look like horses with short tails and narrow noses. We were expecting giant studs with impressive racks of antlers. Not these guys. We seemed interested in us so we stayed in the car.
Redwood Forest in Northern California

We got to the Redwood Forest and I was in heaven. I didn’t hug the tree’s but I did a lot of this šŸ™‚ They’re amazing.

The Oregon coast required socks, sweaters and down vests.

This morning was cooler so we brought out our down vests and socks.

We’re heading further north tomorrow…

  1. We love to road trip, too and the drive along the Oregon coast is so beautiful! I don’t look nearly as cute as you on our drives though. I need to step up my game! Haha!
My son lives in Cannon Beach so we love to visit that area. šŸ™‚ If you find yourself there, stop in Insomnia Coffee Co. for your tea or coffee and a delicious pastry and say hi to Micah. You can’t miss him; he’s the only guy! Plus the dreadlocks set him apart. Haha! He’ll treat you well. Be sure to give him my love. šŸ˜‰

  2. Jennifer you look super cute. More chic than I dress for up there. I basically wear sneakers and a rain jacket. So my husband lived in Trinidad most of his life. I have so many recommendations for that lovely town. I don’t know if you actually went into the village of Trinidad, but it’s darling. There’s a cute coffee shop and organic bakery across from the town school. ( I don’t know where the red one you posted is at- not in the village.) There is a wonderful port with a amazing view. It was an historic whaling port and village. There’s a cute shop- Sea Around Us, I never miss! I also love to hit the darling hippie town of Arcata and the very best place on the planet to see the redwoods- Lady Bird Johnson Grove. It’s near Fern Canyon where you can walk between canyon walls on a stream trail on planks. They filmed Jurassic Park there. I hope you get to some of those! Also if you go back through Eureka has the best bagels- Los Bagels and a darling Victorian downtown with hills. You would approve of the Carter House Hotel there. I also love the Gold Coast of Oregon and TuTuTon Lodge is gorgeous! Have fun being off the grid! xoxo Kim

  3. The Redwood Forest was part of my favorite childhood family trip. Can’t wait for more, as you head up the Oregon coast. Onward to Astoria! (And toward the volcanoes, I hope.)

    1. It’s just a stunning area! We loved it. I’d love to have stayed a week or so and just soaking all that beauty in.

  4. I hope you get as far as Canon Beach to see the Haystacks – breathtaking! I also do all the driving for the same reason. Enjoy your travels!

    1. I’ll check the map right now!!

  5. Looks like a great trip, Jennifer. I love a road trip as we. We just came home from North Carolina where the scenery was wonderful too. Love that blue and tan scarf with the blue tee and your jeans and those lovely leopard flats. The epitome of casual chic, in my books.

    1. Meant to say …”I love a road trip as well… Must remember NOT to post comments before I’ve had my morning tea.

      1. I’m the same way without my tea:)

    2. Thanks so much. I felt confident in that look. I’ve always wanted to explore the NC area. It looks so beautiful!! I think leopard flats dress up most things šŸ™‚

  6. Looks like a wonderful trip! I love those leopard flats – getting a pair has been on my list for a while!

Enjoy the rest of your travels!
