Priceless Memories Our Accessories Hold

This scarf holds beautiful memories. And they just keep coming. I fished it out of a sale bin at Neiman Marcus over 15 years ago. It was the brightly colored tubes of lipsticks…marching around the edge that caught my eye. They still continue to make me smile when I wear it…but the memories it holds, make me far happier than how it looks.

Last summer I wore it as a do-rag while my daughter and I made wild blackberry jam at our home on Vancouver Island. It was a great way to keep my hair back. She labeled our jam “WanderLust” to celebrate her year of whirlwind traveling.
Those memories become all the sweeter now that we’ve sold the house.
I’m treasuring the few jars I have left and now the scarf holds those memories.

Yesterday my new grandson James, snuggled down for a nap on me, nestled up to my scarf.

It was the first time I had him all to myself for over an hour. While my exhausted son and daughter-in-law tookĀ naps, I lay on the couch with sweet baby James. Cooing softly, rubbing his little back, telling him how special he was.
When he awoke there was a tiny spot of baby drool on my scarf.

I’m feeling pretty smug and content holding this bundle of joy and hope.

I’d never thought about it before now…but that scarf is priceless.
It holds such beautiful memories.

I may never wash it again.

Just kidding. It’s not like Elvis whipped his brow with it!
{Carbon dating myself with that comment :-}

The memories are inside.

  2. What a happy post. I loved the photo of you and your daughter, both glowing. And that picture of you with Baby James made me melt. He’s so perfect. And that’s a great photo of your son holding him. I can only imagine what’s like to hold a grandbaby. I’ve been having fun catching up on your blog. Cute selfie. I wish I didn’t feel so weird taking one. Sometimes I think I’m quite a bore.

  19. What a great post. This is everything I love about scarves–they catch your eye with their pattern and colors and then you wear them and they become imprinted with memories as well. James is a gorgeous baby, that little cowlick in his hair reminds me so much of daughter’s hair when she was new. And the hair shade was very similar! Congratulations to your son and daughter-in-law, and you, what a precious time for your family. Enjoy Halloween with little James! XO, Jill
